Pedants' corner

I read all of these (and more) in a book I have just finished

"You're they're mother"
"..She's being ... brought home to her parent's house" (The parents are a couple, it's not a single parent)
"sneaked a peak"
"grabbed the kid's attention" (there are several kids here)
"...drove to the Finch's house" (there is more than one person named Finch living in the house)
"I focussed on Marie" (I know this is more common outside the UK but it grates)
"Should of known ... James would be involved somewhere" (acceptable if this is what the character said using incorrect grammar, I suppose, but look at the track record)
"She would have laughed out loud at the ludicrously of it" (I did)
"It's standard practise"
"the visitor's room" (I'm sure the hospital allows more than one visitor in at a time)

Just WHAT is an editor and proofreader paid for?

I often wonder that too. So many errors in books these days

Who’s the publisher?

It's a self-published novel, then? I don't read them now unless a friend recommends them to me. The mistakes are horrific.

Can you tell us who the publisher is? It looks like a Kindle job.

Harper Impulse, an imprint of Harper Collins. it was a paperback I read.

In fairness many books make almost no money so it doesn't pay to edit them.

Is it not possible to send them a message, though?
