Does affordable linen bedding exist?!

We're about to move house and for the first time will have guest bedrooms - one will have a king or super king size bed (TBC), and the other will have a double bed. We use Piglet in Bed linen for our bedding, which I love – but the cost of buying the same brand for guest bedrooms is way out of my budget. I've been looking for much more affordable bed linens but can't seem to find anything suitable. I want 4 x pillow cases, 1 x flat sheet, 1 x fitted sheet, 1 x duvet cover for each bed. Even the high street brands are either close to the same price as Piglet in Bed linens (Zara Home is £358 each for the bundles), or they only do duvet covers and pillow cases (H&M Home). Does anyone have any ideas for where I can get affordable linen bedding bundles?? I really love the look of linen and would ideally prefer this over cotton – although I'm beginning to doubt it exists, and certainly don't want to be spending £700+ on two sets of linens!! I've already done a lot of googling, so am prepared to start looking at cheaper materials, but wanted to ask here first!

Dunelm have a couple of linen quilt covers. Their cotton bedding is lovely and the fitted sheets are available in different depths to accommodate deeper mattresses.

I found some in primark a couple of years ago. No idea if they still do it but was about double their usual prices so I think £25 ish for the double duvet cover & 2 pillowcases

I bought plain white linen bedding from Homebase and dyed it to avoid spending £££ on the set I really wanted.

Ikea do fantastic 100% cotton bedding for a tiny fraction of the price

Love Soak and Sleep but their prices have been creeping up. I am a linen devotee but the Dusk 50% linen 50% cotton blend is exceptionally good value and I have been really impressed.

@LudicrouslyCapaciousBag this is good advice! Does the 50-50 linen cotton blend have the same kind of 'crumpled' feel that linen does? It is a great price compared to the 100% linen sets I'm otherwise tempted by!

@FrenesiGates it's not exactly the same, and is a little bit smoother, but still has a lovely texture and relaxed look.

@Littlebluebellwoods I completely agree! I was hoping to spend max. £150 per set – but not sure that's possible with linen! I think I'm going to look at affordable high thread count cotton for pillow cases, fitted sheet and flat sheet and then get the most affordable linen duvet covers I can find!

Have you tried Wayfair? Some of their stuff is a bit dodgy but if you pick something that looks alright it's usually fine...

We've got the linen bedding from La Redoute as well - I've been very happy with it and echo the comments about it washing and wearing well. I do need to get the sewing machine out and make it smaller though, as I agree, it's a bit annoying.

La redoute
soak and sleep

although I have now gone to cotton as it was just getting too pricey

I got some linen bedding from HomeSense for £49.99 recently. Just the duvet cover and 2 x pillowcases, though, they didn't have separate linen sheets or pillowcases in at the time. I guess it's luxk of the draw there.

The M&S ones are good and good value (I think I purchased all with 20 per cent on my Sparks card). I also have ones from Zara and LaRedoute. No complaints with any of them.

I always come back to IKEA. Both their linen and cotton bedding is just the best. It's 100% linen or 100%cotton, and they have a great choice of flat sheets in European sizes, so good if you want to use it as a blanket rather than sleep on. I not only use it for myself but also for high end holiday accommodation, too, and everyone was very happy sleeping in it.

If it's for guests, I'd really want it spotless, so chances are you gonna throw it away the moment they spill their coffee on it, or go to bed with self tanning lotion on or have a little body fluid accident, menstruation etc, so you better buy several sets that you can change and replace. If it was my bedding I wouldn't mind the odd mark, and I keep my bedding for ages, but sleeping in a slightly marked guest bedroom is just gross.

That's why, paradoxically, white is the best choice. There is almost no stain that cannot be Napisaned / boiled / bleached out by the sun, and if you truly are defeated then Dylon machine dye is incredibly easy to use. It's shockingly wasteful to start with the assumption that you will throw out guest bedding regularly.

What no way! Who does that??

@LudicrouslyCapaciousBag You have to come and do my laundry. After running a couple of holiday lets for decades I still get defeated pretty often. The worst is self tanning lotion and sharpie marks. Often no luck with bleach, stain removers etc. No garden to sun bleach as guests use it. The self tan looks like poo, so apart from dying it all brown or black I think I will have to let go of several sets over the years. If OP is equally good at laundry than you and her guests are mindful, she'll hopefully not regret any investment in bedding , but personally I'd look for a price point that doesn't make you cry if something happens that means you could only keep it as dust sheets.

@NellyBarney I take your point (and am sorry to hear that your guests are so careless) but I think OP is talking about occasional visits from friends and family rather than a major commercial operation!

@LudicrouslyCapaciousBag @NellyBarney definitely not planning on throwing out guest linens regularly! And yes - it will be family and occasionally friends staying – mostly my parents who are in their 70s and don't use fake tan 😂I ended up going with some Sleep & Soak linens (I was able to use a 25% off discount code) and one set from Ikea (as I realised one of the bedspreads is European size)
