Annecy is on my bucket list. I’m guessing we fly to Geneva and then hop on a bus.
I would love to hear about your experience and a good hotel to stay in.
thank you

If you’re going in summer it can get very hot, we’ve transited through in 42c a couple of summers ago! There’s lots of holiday park type places around the edge of the lake, but I’ve only stayed in a crappy motel place so I can’t recommend but it’s a stunning landscape. There’s lots to do in Les Gets / Morzine area further up the road into Mtn in the summer if you want hiking, lake swimming and cycling as the ski lifts are open. Plus a fab pool complex in Morzine. If you stay in Geneva you can get a cheap travel card that lets you hop on / off all the public transport, we took a boat across the lake, buses and tram but we were unlucky it was in their August heat wave so quite uncomfortable and very very expensive! A single microwave meal was £10 in the Geneva supermarket!

Cannot help but your title took me down a nostalgic route - used to do a lot of training events in Annecey (20 years ago) and we stayed at the Imperial Palace which was lovely .

We were there last month and couldn't find a hotel that suited us within our budget - we like to have a balcony with a good view and convenient free parking for example - so we opted for a little Airbnb slap bang in the middle of the Old Town, which was perfect.

Lake Annecy is a big lake and there are lots of different villages with places to stay - but the Old Town is truly something special and absolutely beautiful, it was lovely wandering around in the evening looking at all the restaurant menus and deciding where to eat without having to drive and find a parking space - parking is a nightmare in Annecy!

We flew into Lyon but Geneva is closer. We took a trip up to Charmonix and took the cable car up to Mont Blanc and also went hang-gliding ovet Lake Annecy and took a small plane tour over the Aravis Mountains, both of which were amazing and very reasonably priced. It's a truly wonderful place! I really want to go back in the Summer to swim in the lake!

We stayed in an apartment block about 10 mins walk from the old town last year, we drove down so having parking was important but we only used the car to go out of town and to the supermarket. It was July and the temperatures were high, around 38°C during the day and still 27°C late into the night, so aircon was useful. The old town is fabulous by day and night, we swam in the lake most days and paddleboarded, drove to a ski resort to use the chairlifts, had a fabulous week.

@PinkPondQueen can you remember the name of the company you took the small plane tour with?

We stayed in Talloires at Hotel du Lac, but it was about 15 years ago! There was a boat into Annecy, beach and activities like a GoApe course in the hills behind.

Annecy is one of my favourite places ever. We went in August and it was abount 30 degrees in the daytime but the heat was a bit fresher than Mediterranean heat.
Got a bus from Geneva airport to Annecy bus station which was pretty central. Accommodation is very expensive so depends on your budget really. I stayed in the Ibis which was lovely and the room had a nice balcony but obviously if your budget allows there are nicer places directly overlooking the lake. I needed to be central as didn’t hire a car but a car would have given more options of towns and villages to stay around the lake. Also the Ibis only has rooms for two so if you are a family you’d have to have two rooms so an Airbnb might be a better option.
The town is utterly charming and near to the town the water is turquoise and crystal clear and waist deep for quite a big stretch so you can hire a boat or pedalo and jump in. There is also a grassy ‘beach’ area for sunbathing with a jetty where you can jump into the lake. It is a surprisingly busy place, not many Brits but packed with other nationalities in summer.
Good train links for trips to places like Chamonix which are similarly lovely. Enjoy.

Thank you @PinkPondQueen . I had been looking at helicopter rentals but couldn’t find one for while I was there. Will have a try with this company.
