So we had to cancel our big anniversary holiday this year because of COVID. We're gutted but have promised ourselves we'll do something even bigger and better to make up for it next year and would love some recommendations please!

Criteria:

  • Needs to be 100% all-inclusive
  • Looking for luxury, not cheap and cheerful
  • For a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 upper primary aged DCs)
  • Open to suggestions of where, if you've been somewhere amazing you'd recommend - if you don't mind sharing approx cost that'd be helpful too but understand if you'd rather not

The Barbados one was full of all aged couples, there were quite a lot of honeymooners, I’m 50 and my neighbours go who are nearly 80.

IME all luxury resorts can become AI (you just have to ask!) We've stayed at the Four Seasons and St Regis in Punta Mita MX with said plan. I think it was about £2000 per night but completely worth it ;) Otherwise Finest in Cancun is lovely and that one is about £1000pn. Grand Velas in Riviera Maya was nice too that one was about £1500. But yes my advice is find a hotel you like and ask about a meal plan :)

Stayed in several all-inclusives across the Caribbean and enjoyed Finest Playa Mujeres the most. We had a swim up room in the Finest Club section and would definitely recommend that.
We've also stayed in Beaches Turks & Caicos which is a family Sandals resort. They have a lot of restaurants and pools, great kids club for young kids and lovely beach but I didn't find it as high end as Finest. Rooms are basic unless you spend $20,000 plus and little things like poolside drink service and room service are missing.

The Beaches resorts (family Sandals resorts) are ok but ideally suited to slightly older kids. We went to Ochos Rios in Jamaica and Christmas and there was just so much my 7yo couldn’t do. The kids clubs were brilliant though but I wanted us to do stuff as a family rather than stick them both in a kids club. The staff are also miserable as sin in both Jamaica and Turks and Caicos - you’re not allowed to tip at all but the Americans there are constantly trying to do it not very subtly. I think as soon as they realise you’re not tipping - even though the price is supposed to include tips and they apparently discipline staff who accept them, everyone seemed to be doing it. I wouldn’t on principle and was just completely ignored by all staff.

But - the water parks are amazing, it includes scuba diving, discos, soft play, beach bbq’s - absolutely loads for the kids and adults but mostly separate activities until they were teenagers which I didn’t like. The food was decent but not amazing and if you tried to do anything outside the AI complex they hated it!

Should have said although the ikos and the Maxx are more luxurious for adults, the Voyage has more for kids including a water park, crazy golf, included mini funfair, included games arcade and bowling alley. For adults it has 5 restaurants plus one waiter service serving food 24 hrs a day, fully branded drinks 24/7 and branded ice creams. The kids loved it.

Atmosphere Kanifushi in the Maldives is incredible, with huge bungalows.
