Cruise advice - one mini suite or two cabins

Trying to decide what to do for a family of 4

Kids are getting older - will be 11 and 15 next year. Family of 3 women and one teenage boy

We can get one mini suite with a double bed and a sofa area which converts into two beds for kids. One bathroom in the cabin

Or two standard cabins, which are very small - really just space to walk around the bed, so nowhere to be during the day. Also, kids under 16 not allowed on their own so it would be one adult and one child in each cabin (possibly sharing double beds, but might be able to get set up as twins). But better beds for the kids, and two bathrooms for the family

Prices are the same. What would you do?

2 cabins - not in your room that much unless the mini suite comes with lots of benefits the standard doesn’t offer.

Can you get interconnecting cabins, that way you can all use both bathrooms if needed and the DCs can be in one room, adults in the other. You really don't need to spend time there during the day.

A lot of families get a nice roomy balcony cabin with an inside cabin opposite to cut the cost. Once you are on board you may be able to mix & match who sleeps where.

Apparently no interconnecting cabins available.

I think we’ll go for the suite, thanks for your thoughts

Mini suite. I hate the tiny cabins in the ferries I’ve been on so if the cruise ones were similar as you described it would be torture for me. But depends on how well you all get on and if you’d find being in each other’s space so much really hard.

Another vote for the mini-suite. Unless you really don't get on.

What do your children think? DD would be mortified to share a room or even a large bed with a boy, sibling or not. She is 12 now.

Why are you thinking mini suite? The one bathroom would finish me off.
What makes you think the standard cabins are tiny? Every cruise I’ve been on has pretty average sized rooms. Having two bathrooms to get ready in the evenings is a bonus. Only one persons snoring, a bonus. Everyone can use the other cabin if someone wants a lie down or sleep in or whatever - not possible with sofa beds.

What ship are you on @HermioneWeasley?

I’d go on here & ask specifically or do some research. If you’ve got a balcony I doubt the standard cabin is that small. I’d never have one bathroom & sofa beds over 2 cabins!

& I’ve been on 7 cruises. They are nothing like a ferry BTW!!

Two cabins all the way just for the extra bathroom.

On paper, we’ve always been split up - one of us with each ds. In practice , staff turn a blind eye. So long as Cabins are next door to each other you’ll be ok and much better off than in a mini suite. If they have c balconies and you’re going on a med cruise or similar, they are your living space
