Taking additional A levels or resitting A levels

What is the process if DC wants to take an additional A level, either in year 13 or gap year. Or if they need to resit? Do they go to s private college, school?

Do kids accept whatever university which offer them a place even though they may not be entirely happy with it or the course or wait and reapply for right university or course?

Only the most competitive courses and universities will really be bothered by this - and even then many are increasingly sympathetic. Usually if all A levels need to be repeated then school will offer the DC to do another year of sixth form as funding goes up to age 19. If it’s just one that they want to repeat then school sometimes offer them to self teach for the year and then sit the exams as an external candidate. Obviously this wouldn’t work for science A levels or any others involving coursework/practical assessment. These would have to be taken at a college. For an additional A level usually this would also need to be either done independently or at a college

On a related point, if DC doesn't get the required grades, but passes, would they be able to access funding to resit, or is this only possible if they've failed?

No - all DC are entitled to free full time education up to age 19. No requirements

You would have to find somewhere willing to take you on, of course!
A level students do sometimes do an additional a level off their own bat especially additional further maths.

The vast majority of schools/colleges, even prestigious ones are happy to allow students to repeat a year. It isn’t usually an issue

Our 6th form wouldn't allow an extra year but local college would.
