Do you recommend a garden swing seat?

Hello all!
We are currently looking at some garden swing seats to make use of this summer, ideally something cheap and cheerful (under £100)
If anyone has one similar to the pictures below, then can I please ask:
Are they durable?
Easy to clean?
And lastly do you get good use out of it?
Thank you all, also please do recommend any that you have yourself

This one is a £99 one from Asda with a mesh type seat

I'm a little worried it will soon be filled with bird droppings hence asking if anyone else has similar issues

We had similar type years ago and didn’t find it very durable or comfortable. The fabric fades in the sun and unless you cover it in the winter it will start to look worn. We got a wooden one instead. Have had it for years. We add cushions to it. We stained the wood and give it a fresh coat every year. More expensive but worth it long term. I love sitting on it and regularly use it.

No they go rusty and manky pretty quickly, and are quite rickety and uncomfortable.

We had a wooden one left by the previous owner of our house which was more comfortable. But we got rid of it eventually as it’s a small garden and it took up so much space and we found we rarely used it.

We have a garden seat like the one pictured at the top. It’s our second one. the first one lasted for years. We all love it, especially the grandchildren. I often sit on it to have my coffee in the morning (in the summer). My husband hoses it down when necessary.

My mum has one similar to your picture and it has lasted well, but they take good care of it, taking bits in during winter etc and not leaving the cushions on all the time. We are thinking of getting a wooden one but we will need to add pigeon spikes I think if we do to avoid bird poo

I have had a couple of mesh ones and I love them! I usually get a couple of years out of one before it needs to be replaced due to rust or just looking a bit shabby. Throw a couple of cushions on it and I’m sorted for the day.

It’s called Poseidon Wooden Garden Arbour Swingseat. They still sell them. I’m trying to find email from 2016 to see where we got it from. But google that name and they will come up

We had a metal framed one at our previous house and we loved it. Used it loads until the mesh fabric on the back tore. We did use extra cushions for extra comfort. I think I would get metal again if I could store it through the winter as that might make it last longer. We had a garden party and some friends used it and also loved it

Oh I was thinking about this! Are they easily broken by kids trying to swing too vigorously in people's experiences?

Ours has survived about a good 6 years or so and the kids are NOT kind on it. Metal framed one with cushioned seat pads that I think was about £150 originally from Argos. We take the seat pads and canopy in from about late September through to Easter-ish - first set of seat pads hadn't faded in the sun at all, but needed replacing after we had mice nesting in the shed who made their home in there - replacement pads have faded in the sun but with where it is in the garden I just let it be. The frame stays out all winter.

Mum's wooden one didn't last as well as ours has.

My mum and her sister were each given one (different brand) from my grandparents years ago. My aunts one was outside to the elements, mums is covered by a patio roof. Still outside, and might get the odd bit of rain/sun/wind etc, but nearly 20yrs on, mums one is going strong. My aunts one rusted and fell apart over 15yrs ago.
Consider a good cover if you can't position it under any protection from rain and sun.
As a side, its lovely to sit and relax in mums one, watching the birds and things going on in her garden.

https://argos-support.co.uk/8795087-ah-tubular-swing-hammock-3-seat-blue-hd Can't find it live on the Argos site - but this is the one we have. The canopy sun-faded a lot and eventually ripped (mainly because my stepfather is a klutz) but the seat cushion lasted absolutely ages and still looked decent until it became Casa Mouse Family.

Still going strong with cheapie Amazon replacement canopy and cushions. The whole seat frame is metal springs so has been fine left outdoors for years now and it's also survived two house moves.

Thanks all for the feedback, I am thinking of going with this one from very which is on a bankholiday weekend sale, I'm not keen on sitting on cushions that have been outside and not covered so I think this is the best option for me in terms of keeping it clean too. I can just hose it down

Outsunny 3 Seater Canopy Swing Chair Garden Rocking Bench Heavy Duty Patio Metal Seat w/Top Roof - Orange amzn.eu/d/1L2Hw5m?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

We got this one over a year ago and it's lasted well over the winter under a tarp. The kids completely love it and it's been very enthusiasticly used and is pretty comfortable

I have one like the Asda one, though I got rid of the sunshade as it meant I couldn't see the stars at night. Also it was very prone to rip away in high winds. I use a garden umbrella for shade instead.

It's been out in the open for three years now and perfectly OK, and yes, it does rain in Melbourne, quite a lot, though not of the epic consistency that the UK has had of late. I don't put it under a tarp because it's in my front garden and I don't want to look at such an eyesore all the time.

Thanks, that's really reassuring.

Although the mouse home has given me the heebie jeebies!

Don't worry - the mice moved into the shed it was stored in over the winter as we kept the big sacks of dogfood in there - so they were having the time of their mousey lives with food on tap and soft furnishings. Eviction notice was served in Spring (so at least they had a nice Winter long break) and they never reappeared since!
