Camping in the Peak District

Really hoping to go as haven’t been for decades!
Want to do cycling along cycle paths and a bit of walking with the kids.
Would appreciate any suggestions for locations or campsites. I like quiet well run campsites ideally with fires and cars on a separate field. Clean showers etc.

North Lees in the Hope valley has a pretty good rep.

Dale Farm is a nice site. From the farm it’s a 5-minute walk into the village, where there are two good pubs and a playing field with a playground and tennis court. Carry on and you quickly hit the Monsal Trail, a car-free trail that runs along an old railway line for about 8 miles between Blackwell Mill in Chee Dale and Bakewell. Also it’s only five miles to Chatsworth House.

Common End Farm is also good for walking and cycling. District. A two-mile network of footpaths leads you straight from the site down to Dovedale. From there you can climb Thorpe Cloud hill or a two and a half mile round trip takes you through the National Trust’s Ilam Park, where you can stop off for a cream tea on the lawn. Ashbourne and the Tissington and Manifold cycle trails are all within three miles of the site.

North Lees is a nice campsite but it's further away from cycling trails- there's good walking and climbing from there though. For cycling, I would base myself more West with the sites Rice has suggested, and these all offer fires too (although I haven't stayed at any!)

Hi there!

www.farmonthehill.co.uk/ Rustic but so lovely - more Staffordshire way.

We have been to Ashbourne Heights which was lovely - as you just get directed to a big field at the back and you can pitch anywhere. Great location for cycling.

We have also been to Callow Top. This has direct access onto the Tissington Trail which was great, but I probably wouldn’t return - it’s a little more commercial and very noisy - we prefer it a little more rustic!
