City break with kids

We were recently very kindly gifted £2000 following a family bereavement, to do something nice with our family, 2 children 10 and 7! We already have our summer holiday booked, so thinking of taking them a city break during the Easter holidays however have no idea where would be good with kids! They've never been to London and imagine there is lots we could do there, but I fancy going somewhere I've never been! Any suggestions of cities which are good with kids? UK or abroad!?

Berlin is a fun place to visit - Science Museum, Zoo, Aquarium, Bundtstag (you can go up the dome), DDR Museum, Checkpoint Charlie, lots of other WW/post WW sights. Although 'Mitte' is the trendy part, we tend to stay near 'Bikini Berlin' shopping centre which has a fab food court with different options to suit all tastes. Lots of other easy/cheap eating options too.

Meant to mention a trip up TV tower too - you can book and have lunch in the revolving restaurant.

I recommend Wroclaw in Poland - the children will love it as they can do the dwarf trail and hunt down some of the 600:dwarf statuettes in the city. Plus you can go on a boat trip, wander round the old town, go up to the top of the cathedral for views. It's a short flight away, super cheap and different

Found Copenhagen a brilliant city for children and adults. 🙂

Glasgow and Edinburgh
Glasgow for the Science centre
Into Braehead for the snow place for sledging, a make your own chocolate place and high ropes then a train to Edinburgh for Arthur's seat, the zoo is fantastic.

We did both during the European Championships but spent most of our time watching sports events but there was loads of other things to do we didn't have time for. I would have liked to have done a tour of the Highlands, Harry Potter train, Aberdeen to get the ferry across to the islands to see puffins etc, the castle and a dinosaur/geological venue in Edinburgh too

Lisbon could be nice. There's a beach and Sintra with it's wacky castle.

Copenhagen is amazing with kids. Tivoli, blue planet, the zoo and Strøget for shopping. We tend to do legoland too or one of the theme parks around Denmark but we are big on theme parks.

i also really like Paris with kids.

We're going next week to Paris with our baby. Would love any recommendations x

@ihavebadteeth Depending on the age of the baby I’d personally do a sling instead of pram for the baby and go for a walk around Montmarte and go up the church dome there it’s the best view in Paris and eat all the good food.
Id also go to the zoo and see if you find a circus because they are brilliant.
but enjoy it’ll be great.

Sorry to say Snow Factor at Braehead permanently closed in 2022 due to cost of energy and maintenance.

I would second Berlin, or suggest Budapest for kids that age. Loads to see and do and lovely at Easter time.

Have done Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris and New York, Boston with kids. Obviously London and several UK too but suspecting you’d like recommendations abroad.

I’d say Amsterdam and Copenhagen were the best for younger children.

Rome. There is something to see around every corner. Ice cream. A zoo. Squares to run around to burn off energy as well as parks. Warm so feels like a mini holiday.

I also love Madrid.

Thanks for all the recommendations! We actually live in between Glasgow and Edinburgh so done those many times with the kids - but would recommend for those that haven't! Berlin was on my list but having not been wasn't sure if there would be enough to occupy them! One child wants to go to Paris, we've been without kids and struggle to think what we'd do with them for 4 days or so!

Another vote for Copenhagen. Fab place for a family city break.
