Steam generator Irons

Hi,

After another dull Sunday morning ironing I am think I am about ready to invest in a steam generator iron. Wondering if anyone could recommend one and if it's worth spending the extra money on the more expensive ones. Thanks

I got a cheap one from Aldi (£30) a few years ago because I wasn't sure if they were worth the money and it was fantastic. Unfortunately it didn't last so I have slightly upgraded to a Phillips (approx £50/60).
I think they are brilliant. I am not an amazing ironer but my clothes look really well done. The iron is lighter because all the water is in the tank and not the iron.
I've found the cheaper end to be sufficient but maybe the more £££ ones are even better.

Love love love mine and wouldn’t be without it-ironing it’s so much quicker and easier due to less weight

Thank you. That's it decision made. Does it cut down your ironing time by much? So fed up or the whole of Sunday Morning ironing. I have loads of shirts to iron

I also have an Aldi one although, post-kids I do as little ironing as possible. However, it’s brilliant at getting creases out of fabric I have pre-washed for dressmaking. It’s also great for bedding. It takes much less time to get really creased stuff looking reasonable.

Got a teal one on offer but still £115 tbh got at least 3 shit £30/£40 normal irons over last few years so in long run no dearer .
Iron in fraction of time only have to do one side you do need mesh ironing board and go for one thats contious fill cheaper ones don't have this and you have to wait for them to cool down before refilling .

Fabulous things! I've had 2. I ruined the first one by filling it with our very hard tap water. Well worth it if you do any ironing ar all.

Ah we have very hard water. Do you have to use bottled water? There are so many to choose from. Think I will be still using my old faithful next Sunday whilst I research

I’ve got a Bosch i8 something (I think) very £££ But absolutely brilliant. I have used a Bosch i7 and it’s even better than mine. Can’t afford it though

I got a water filter jug as our water is very hard. Useful for filling our kettle too.

The water from the condensor part of the tumble dryer is ideal as the ions (?) have been removed apparently, according to Phillips.

I bought a Russell Hobbs one for £44 from Dunelm. I didn't want to risk an expensive one in case it wasn't worth the extra money over a normal steam iron. It is an older model with a stainless steel sole plate, which is now ceramic on newer models. Anyway, I love it and will never buy an ordinary iron again. It makes short work of my sons' school polo shirts which always come out of the washing machine looking as though they've been chewed by a wild animal. It is definitely quicker.

Thanks for everyone's advice. Will have to dig out my old water filter jug too, as we don't have a condenser tumble dryer. I keep going back to the Polti Vaporella generator irons but will do some reading first. Thank you

I've got a Morphy Richards steam generator. I bought it half price (can't remember where but I think it was just not the latest model). It's absolutely great. I wish I'd bought one years ago.

We quite often hang our shirts on the back of the door to steam rather than iron them iyswim.

We always put deionsed water in the tank. Best place to buy is Tesco or Halfords - 5litre'cans'.

Meant to say I paid 7£70- ish rather than £140 for mine. Also, get a high bar number for the pressure. Mine's 6.5, I think.

I've got a Bosch one at the moment. Previously had Philips and Polti vaporella. I don't think I'd go back to using ordinary steam irons now. Our water is hard so I use the water from the dehumidifier I switch on when having to dry washing indoors.

I've got a tefal one, it has a little filter thing of its own for the hard water.
Had a good deal by opening a Very catalogue and getting 20% off as a new customer, came in at about £100. Absolutely wouldn't be without it.

I bought one recently (it was more than your buget - £300 reduced from £450) but I saved for it & it's bloody marvellous. I used to have someone to do my ironing & paid on average £10 per week, but I stopped about a year ago & saved the money to splurge on one. It's lighter, quicker & heats up better with more steam, holds more water so no need to keep refilling & easy to de cal. Also no need to keep changing the temperature as one setting does all. My tip would be to spend as much as you can on one & maybe look at places like John Lewis when they have sales on so you can get the most for your money.

Can’t remember which model I have but absolutely worth it. I also live in a very hard water area, so top up with a mix of half tap and half deionised water.

Take clothes out of washing machine
dry clothes
hang / fold clothes away
