Any ideas for coding toys for a soon to be 7 year old? He can already do block coding using Tynker, code.org etc. I'd just like to get him something coding related that's bot pc based, I've had a look on amazon but most things seem too young and the odd thing I've found for his age have quite bad reviews.

Any recommendations?

Thanks all

My DD liked Little Big Planet. It’s a puzzle/riddle solving game but where the coding comes in is when you create your own levels for the game.

There is also Minecraft it is basic coding for building virtual objects

I was also going to suggest Turing Tumble. We don't have it, but I keep wondering if we should get it.

We have it - my daughter got it last year at Christmas time. We all love it. Even if you're not so interested in learning about how computers work, it's a great logic game.

Scratch on a Raspberry Pi. I know you said not PC based, but if you change your mind, it's a great place to start. He could then progress on to learning other languages without the need for new kit, and it lays a great foundation. As they were designed with schools in mind there are also a tonne of resources out there.

Just stumbled across this monthly subscription service:

www.brightlittlelabs.com/

If you select for their age group it looks like theres a monthly coding set of challenges and stuff on the basis of being part of a spy/cia group and it looks suitable for boys and girls x

Sphero bolt has been a big hit in our household.

Some of these look brilliant. Love the look of the Turing one.
