Our verdict

This bestselling shower squeegee from household experts OXO is just what you need to keep your shower shining.

It uses stainless steel to ensure adequate resistance when used in wet environments, plus the steel won’t rust when used in the shower.

The rubberised tip at the squeegee's front effectively removes water from the glass without leaving behind unpleasant streaks, and the elongated structure covers large areas more quickly, saving you both time and effort.

  • Effective

What we don't like
  • On the small side

Key specs

Price: £5 | Handle material: Plastic | Blade width: 20cm | Blade material: Silicone | Hanging method: Suction cup included

Our verdict

We’ve all heard the old adage “buy cheap and buy twice.” But here at Mumsnet we know that sometimes the household budget just won’t stretch to spending much on a cleaning product, so we’ve found you this super shower squeegee that comes in at a fraction of the price of the rest.

It’s not flashy or ergonomic, but for £5 you still have a decent, durable squeegee (with a handy suction pad) to keep the worst of the grime at bay. It's smaller than other squeegees on our list, so might take a few extra swipes to deal with condensation-covered screens.

This squeegee from German brand Leifheit is ultra-lightweight, which means that it won’t cause any damage if you drop it in the shower.

It still packs a punch when it comes to cleaning though thanks to its fairly rigid rubber blade, but this isn’t the squeegee for you if you want something more flexible and durable.

It doesn’t come with a hook, but it does have a handy cord so you can keep it hanging next to your other shower essentials, ready for use.

Best professional shower squeegee

Best shower squeegee for storage

Baban Stainless Steel Shower Squeegee

What we like
  • High quality hook that won't budge

  • Lightweight

  • Ergonomic design

What we don't like
  • Pricey

Key specs

Price: £14 | Handle material: Stainless steel | Blade width: 24.5cm | Blade material: Rubber | Hanging method: Suction cup included

Our verdict

One of the most common complaints about shower squeegees is the unreliability of the included suction cup used to attach the squeegee to the wall.

We did some research and found this stylish squeegee from Baban, which scores highly on the reliability of its hook, as well as its lightweight, ergonomic design and effective blade.

Simply follow the included instructions to keep the suction cup in place, and if it does eventually fall off, give it a good clean and reattach to the wall in a different location at least one diameter’s width away from the original position.

Do shower squeegees work?

Shower squeegees are a really effective way of cleaning glass shower screens. If used regularly (we recommend you use them at the end of each shower), then they completely prevent the build-up of limescale and soap scum so that dirt isn’t allowed to accumulate and you don't need to spend precious time and elbow grease scrubbing them clean.

Depending on where you live, and how hard or soft the water in your area is, you may also need to use a shower spray to help get the best from your squeegee.

Is rubber or silicone better for a squeegee?

Both rubber and silicone are excellent for squeegee blades so this largely comes down to personal preference. However, more high-end squeegees usually have rubber blades that can be replaced, making them an economical choice if you use your squeegee for more than just keeping a shower screen clean.

How to choose a shower squeegee

The main considerations when choosing a shower squeegee are the width of the blade, the material used in the blade, whether the blade is replaceable and whether there’s a way of conveniently hanging the squeegee to keep it to hand whenever you need it.

As discussed above, the type of blade largely comes down to personal preference. If you plan to use your squeegee purely for keeping a shower screen clean then either rubber or silicone will work well. If you plan to use your squeegee in more heavy-duty settings like on outdoor windows then you may wish to invest in a larger, stronger squeegee with replaceable rubber blades.

A wider blade can cover more area of glass with each movement, so if you plan to use your squeegee on larger areas of glass then consider a larger width. If you just plan to use it in the shower then a small, compact squeegee may be enough, particularly if you don’t have much space in your bathroom.

Where should I hang shower squeegee?

Many people choose to keep their squeegee hanging in the shower cubicle or by the bath. This means that it can air dry and also be on hand after you’ve used the shower.

Many squeegees come with a means of hanging them up. Some come with a suction cup which attaches to your tiles, and some come with a cord or at the very least have a hole in the handle for hanging purposes.

Some customers report difficulties keeping suction cups attached for a long time and, if you have very textured tiles, you may find you struggle more with this issue.

Which is the best shower squeegee?

The Oxo Good Grips Shower Squeegee is the best squeegee to use in your shower thanks to its sturdy and durable structure, and effective blade.
