Weleda, hands down. Apply at every change but can skip the odd one and not worry too much. It keeps the rash at bay but is super gentle.

Another vote for Weleda. I far prefer it to all other natural ones. Goes on very easily and clears up redness in hours.

Our verdict
  • Ease of use: 4.5/5

  • Effectiveness: 4.5/5

  • Value for money: 4.5/5

I tested the Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream for a week with my 23-month-old after each nappy change, comparing it to other nappy rash creams like Sudocrem and Metanium. Initially, the cream had a slightly watery consistency when squeezed out of the tube, but on the second squeeze, it was fine. A small amount (about a pea size) was sufficient.

The cream, containing natural ingredients like calendula and zinc oxide, reduces redness and soreness noticeably after one use. It’s ideal for sensitive skin and doesn't have any synthetic fragrances, which is important for my daughter who has eczema.

While slightly pricier than nappy creams like Sudocrem, its effectiveness and longevity make it a worthwhile investment for treating nappy rash efficiently. Overall, it's easy to use, quick-acting and offers good value. Highly recommended for soothing and preventing nappy rash.

How we tested Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream

I tried out the Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream with my 23-month-old toddler every day after each nappy change over the course of a week.

During use, I compared it to other nappy rash creams I’ve tested like Sudocrem, Metanium and Childs Farm Nappy Cream and scored it out of five on the following three criteria in order to get a full picture of its overall performance: ease of use, effectiveness and value for money.

How easy is Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream to use?

On first use, the initial squeeze of product had a slight watery consistency, but this was rectified when I squeezed more cream out of the tube.

Generally, I found the Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream very easy to apply, only requiring a pea-sized amount for each nappy change. It’s thinner in texture than Sudocrem, which I also tested, but thicker than nappy rash creams like the Child’s Farm Nappy Cream.

How effective is Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream?

During testing, the Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream was effective at reducing redness and soreness after a single use.

While I didn’t test it on severe nappy rash, I was reassured by how quickly it took action. Within the space of one hour, my daughter’s redness was drastically reduced and there was no recurring dampness.

This all-natural nappy cream contains lanolin and zinc oxide, which help to guard against excessive moisture, as well as calendula, which helps with wound healing and fighting inflammation, and almond oil and chamomile extracts for soothing the skin.

While these components mean this cream isn’t odour-free, the smell is fairly pleasant. As my daughter has eczema, I am careful what I use on her skin. The Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream is ideal for sensitive skin and is free from the likes of synthetic preservatives and fragrances.

Is Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream good value for money?

Yes. A little goes a long way with the Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream so, at £8 for a 75ml tube, it represents good value for money.

While more expensive than the likes of Sudocrem, this cream’s effectiveness makes it a worthy buy for clearing up your baby’s nappy rash.
