Leapfrog LF915HD Baby Monitor review: is this the best video baby monitor around?
With tonnes of useful features and great picture quality, we couldn't wait to put the Leapfrog LF915HD through its paces. Here's what we thought.

How we tested
Our parent-tester Bethan tested the Leapfrog LF915HD with her 1-year-old during naps and night times. She scored the monitor and took detailed notes on a number of factors: ease of set-up, picture quality, stand-out features, signal strength and value for money.

The Leapfrog LF915HD baby monitor is a mid-priced video baby monitor with an impressive number of features. At £130, it’s a higher price point than other video monitors, but it’s clear to see what you get for the extra cash.
The monitor boasts superior picture quality as well as premium features including colour night vision, temperature and humidity sensors, white noise and a night light. Higher priced monitors will offer features like an app and a motion sensor, but we think the Leapfrog LF915HD is a brilliant choice if you’re looking for a great quality monitor but don’t want the extra bells and whistles that come with a premium price tag.

How easy is the Leapfrog LF915HD to set up?
The monitor is a doddle to set up, which is a real plus. Who wants to be fiddling about with tech when you have a baby to deal with? With the Leapfrog LF915HD, the parent and baby units automatically find each other, so once plugged in, it’s very intuitive and straightforward to operate.
You just plugged in, kept within range and switched on and the units found each other no problem.

What's the picture quality like?
Bethan was really impressed with the picture quality on the monitor - both night vision and in the daytime.
The colour is vibrant and clear. It gets more blurry if you use the zoom feature.
The picture quality is so good that Bethan said she could easily check that her daughter was playing in her cot rather than climbing out of it even after she’d woken from her nap.
How reliable is the signal?
Many Mumsnetters are concerned about the risks of using WiFi-dependant baby monitors, both from a cyber security perspective and worries about the router going down. So the option of using WiFi or not is a big positive of the LF915HD.
Bethan’s home is relatively long and the monitor’s non-WiFi signal doesn’t stretch from baby's room to her living room downstairs and at the opposite end of the house. Preferring not to use WiFi, she kept the monitor in the hallway where she could hear it and pop over to see the screen without needing to necessarily go upstairs. Connected to WiFi, the monitor could be used anywhere within the house’s WiFi signal.
What's the battery life like?
The monitor stayed on all evening without being plugged in, so no problems there. The manufacturer doesn’t specify how long the battery should last, so it’s worth keeping an eye on it. The instructions say to charge the battery for 12 hours before the first use, and that 30 minutes of charging will be sufficient after this.

What is the Leapfrog LF915HD like to use day-to-day?
The features are pretty extensive on the LF915HD monitor. Bethan was impressed with the multi-talented nature of the device, which boasts:

The picture quality really is good, and all the features you get with it are awesome.
Apart from the issue with signal strength, Bethan couldn’t fault the monitor. She probably won’t end up using all the features, but they are definitely nice to have.
Is the Leapfrog LF915HD good value for money?
We think this monitor is great value for money. It boasts the same features as monitors around the £200 mark, without compromising on picture quality.
The video quality is much better than my previous monitor which was around £80.
The only thing that let the LF915HD down was the non-WiFi signal strength along the length of Bethan’s house. So if you have a similarly long or large home, it would be worth considering using the WiFi connection.
All in all, we were really impressed with the monitor, and gave it a solid 8.5/10.
