Finding a good-quality sippy cup that’s safe, durable and versatile enough to ‘grow’ with your child can be a challenge, which is why I was excited to test the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic Sippy Cup with my 22-month-old toddler. The good news is that it didn’t disappoint.
Made from 90% recycled stainless steel, the bottle is BPA-free and boasts a chip-resistant Klean Coat finish, which, believe it or not, ensures that it can handle pretty much anything and still looks great, even after multiple falls from my daughter’s high chair.
Although this sippy cup is slightly pricier than some others we have at home including the Tommee Tippee Essential Free-Flow First Cup and Munchkin Miracle 360° Sippy Cup, it holds more liquid (355ml versus around 200ml of other sippy cups) and the stainless steel design is more durable and hygienic than other plastic varieties.
However, unlike open cups like the Doidy Cup, this sippy cup comes with a three-hole spout and requires your little one to suck the liquid out. Whilst this ensures that it’s leakproof, sippy cups with spouts, when filled with milk, juice, or sweet drinks, can keep sugar in the mouth for longer, which might lead to more tooth problems like decay.
When carrying around, I appreciate how the narrow design of the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic Sippy Cup fits perfectly in my daughter's hands, feeling lightweight and easy to handle. Plus, it effortlessly fits into any pram or stroller cup holder or car seat cup holder for added convenience.
This sippy cup stands out for its Climate Lock vacuum insulation. First, the inner part of the bottle is made and then sealed together with the outer part to create an airtight space, with all air removed by a high-power vacuum pump.
This vacuum insulation prevents heat transfer more effectively than foam or Styrofoam, promising to keep drinks cold for up to 100 hours. Additionally, the cup's rounded corners simplify cleaning, preventing buildup in tricky areas.
Available in a range of vibrant patterns and colours, my daughter loved the printed strawberry version. It's also good to know that all Klean Kanteen products with painted designs like the one we tested are non-toxic and safe.
How we tested the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic Sippy Cup
I started using the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic Sippy Cup recently with my daughter who is now 22 months old.
She uses three different sippy cups almost every day - the Tommee Tippee Essential Free-Flow First Cup, Munchkin Miracle 360° Sippy Cup and the open Doidy Cup - so I was keen to see how a stainless steel bottle-style sippy cup would compare to her regular favourites.
We used the Klean Kanteen sippy cup for a week, scoring it on a number of different criteria, including: safety, design, ease of use, ease of cleaning and value for money.

How does the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic look and what age is it suitable for?
The Klean Kanteen Kid Classic is a stylish looking sippy cup. It comes in seven different designs, so there’s a good amount of choice depending on your child’s preference. We tested the strawberry version, which has a red bottle and blue cap, and my toddler likes the pattern very much - she was instantly interested in giving this sippy cup a go.
It can be used from six months old, when your baby starts weaning, and offers good longevity thanks to the stainless steel design. You can also buy different caps for the sippy cup as your child grows to suit their age and sipping skills. The classic sippy cap is also compatible with other bottles in the range and can be interchanged with the loop cap and spill-proof sport cap for sports-related activities for older children.
Klean Kanteen Kid Classic: is it BPA-free?
Yes, the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic is BPA-free and made from 90% recycled stainless steel. It comes with a BPA-free plastic cap that you can use for extra peace of mind when on the move.
How easy is the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic to use?
The Klean Kanteen Kid Classic is relatively small and narrow in size, so ideal for small hands, although it is heavier than other sippy cups I’ve tested including the Tommee Tippee Essential Free-Flow First Cup, Munchkin Miracle 360° Sippy Cup and Doidy Cup, so may be better suited to older babies, toddlers or preschoolers.
There are no grab handles like you see on the Munchkin Miracle 360°, but it’s lightweight enough for my 22-month-old to drink from it easily. She can also carry it around using the handy metal handle, which is also useful for attaching the Klean Kanteen to your changing bag or lightweight stroller.
It’s insulated so it keeps drinks cool all day long (you can’t use it with warm drinks) and the twist cap is secure and easy to remove, so there is no chance of spillages.
The only downside to the Klean Kanteen compared to cups like the Tommee Tippee Essential is that, regardless of the three free-flow holes, more sucking pressure is required to drink.

Is the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic spill-proof?
Yes. The reason that the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic requires more sucking pressure when drinking is because of the valve in the lid, which makes the cup 100% leakproof even when dropped or tipped upside down. When dropped, the outer part thankfully hasn’t dented.
For its leakproof capabilities, I prefer it to all the other sippy cups we’ve tried, so it’s one I generally prefer taking with me when we go out and about.
Klean Kanteen Kid Classic: how easy is it to clean?
Relatively easy. The Kid Classic Sippy Cup is dishwasher-safe, however Klean Kanteen advises that the cups with graphics, like mine, should be hand washed to preserve the detail.
There are only three parts to wash - the bottle, cap and valve - however I’ve found the valve tricky to remove for cleaning so have tended to wash the sippy cup without removing the valve first. Long term, this isn’t hygienic.
I wish the sippy cup would have come with some cleaning instructions, so I had to look up how to clean it online.

Is the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic good value for money?
High-quality and durable, the Klean Kanteen Kid Classic offers excellent longevity, so in my opinion it’s worth its £17 price tag.
It’s definitely more expensive than sippy cups like the Tommee Tippee Essential Free-Flow First Cup, Munchkin Miracle 360° Sippy Cup and Doidy Cup, but will last much longer thanks to its stainless steel composition.
