Klarna search and compare tool review: the Mumsnet Rated app parents love
Most known for payment, Klarna’s app can also help you search for products at a great price. We asked our Mumsnet users to put the app to the test - here’s what they thought.

Even if you haven’t used Klarna to make a purchase, you’ve probably heard of it or seen the pink badge at the checkout. Klarna is known for offering shoppers online payments, but did you know the Klarna app can also help you search for products and compare prices too?
Being a parent often means you have a long list of life admin to get through, including shopping for new clothes or stuff for the home, and the Klarna app provides lots of great features for making online shopping even easier. If you’re looking for an item, such as a new toaster, you can head to the app and use their search and compare tool to look across thousands of retailers to find what you need for less. The feature also helps you narrow down your search with multiple filters, the price history of a product and price drop notifications.
So, rather than having multiple tabs open and noting down prices, let Klarna’s app do all the hard work for you as you search products and prices with ease. For this reason, it has just won the coveted Mumsnet Rated badge after our Mumsnet users put it to the test.

What is Klarna’s search and compare tool and how does it work?
This is the newest feature to be added to Klarna’s app. The search and compare tool allows shoppers to search for products across a huge range of high street and online retailers. The tool shows results in price order so that you can check the lowest price and you can also filter the results to help you find the exact product you need, such as the colour, size, features, customer ratings, store availability and delivery options.
It also shows you how the price has fluctuated so you can decide whether to purchase it now or wait to see if you can get a better deal later. When you’re looking at a product, the app will show you all the information you need to know about it, such as its rating, what others are saying about it, and whether you can find it at a better price from other retailers.

Family life means there’s often a shopping list of items you need to buy for your family and home. Whether it’s something for the kitchen, clothing for the children or even a new outfit for yourself, online shopping can often be time consuming as you individually search through different retailers to find great products and deals.
You’d be forgiven for thinking you can find what you need on search engines alone, but Klarna’s app makes shopping even easier. Gone are the days of multiple tabs and checking retailers to see if things have gone down or are on sale. No more jotting down prices from different stores in your phone’s notebook! Within the Klarna app, you can now browse stores to compare products, prices and delivery options. In fact, the app makes it easy by showing your items in order of price (with the lowest price first). So, you can make an informed choice before making a purchase.
During testing by 136 Mumsnet testers, the app was loved by many of our users, with 85% saying they would recommend it to family and friends - 82% said they’d continue to use the app after testing was finished. Many were surprised as they had no idea that the Klarna app could be used for shopping like this and over 73% said they’d wished they’d used the app sooner for shopping.
When you start looking for a product, you can set filters to easily find items that meet your requirements, such as the size and colour, and quickly narrow down your search. We all know how helpful consumer reviews are when it comes to picking a product online, so rather than searching through the internet for feedback on a brand or item, the app features user ratings and also compares shipping options to help you make the right decision. Our shoppers found the app really useful for purchasing items like school supplies and uniforms, appliances and beauty products.
One of the handy features of the app is the price drop alert, which allows you to track the price of a product to see if you can get it at a lower price - you’ll also be first to know when it goes on sale, too! 49% of our testers saved items to their collection to purchase at a later date and the app then let them know if the price dropped. To ensure you can save as much money as possible, the Klarna app also automatically checks and applies any current discount codes at the checkout.
We loved that you can also see the price history of a product to give you an idea of whether it might drop in price again in the future. Thanks to these features, 69% of our testers agreed the Klarna app saved them money, with 75% saying it helped them make the right purchase.
If you don’t have a specific product in mind, you can make use of the app’s curated feed, which shows you products and brands that may be of interest to you based on what you’ve previously searched for. When it comes to checkout in the Klarna app, you have the flexibility to choose from all Klarna’s payment options including Pay Now, Pay in 30 Days or to Pay in 3 interest-free instalments.**
Overall, we think the Klarna app has everything you need to make online shopping quicker and easier - the only thing that our Mumsnet testers felt could be improved is to see the cost of postage when searching through the results (although, it is shown on the product page itself), as sometimes this could make an item more expensive when you get to checkout. Some of our testers said they would also like to see more stores included in the app.
How we tested the app and search and compare tool
We recruited 150 Mumsnet users to take part in a product test of the Klarna app, focusing on their search and compare tool. They used the app for ten days, searching for products, comparing items and stores to see how easily they could source their shopping and secure a good deal. We asked 136 users to share their feedback on what they liked about the app and what they felt could be improved.

How easy is the search and compare tool to use and navigate?
The app is really user friendly. When you first open it, you can browse through the curated feed, which are products and brands that are recommended to you based on your searches.
From there it is very easy to navigate, with a ‘search and shop’ toolbar for finding the product that you need. You can easily select filters, such as the brand, price or a preferred retailer to narrow down your search which then provides you with a list of available items in price order.
Once you select a product, it will show you all the stores you can buy it from, whether it’s in or out of stock, and shipping information. You can also read user ratings and check the price history of the item. All you have to do then is click through to the store to find out more about the product, including delivery costs and payment options, and make your purchase.
What are the search and compare results like?
When you search for a product through the Klarna app, the app compares thousands of stores in real time to bring you the best current price on the market. The results are shown in price order, starting from the lowest, so you can easily filter through the results to find the best product and deal for you.
