"Novotels are normally a safe bet and good value as children go free. We are just back from Paris and our hotel (Novotel Montparnasse) was modern, very clean and pretty well located for getting around."

Our verdict

A short walk from the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Novotel Centre Tour Eiffel is ideally placed for exploring Paris on foot, and it’s easy to jump on the nearby metro to travel a little further afield.

While you may find there’s a short queue for the lifts, getting to the higher floors is certainly worth the wait as they offer sweeping panoramic views of the city. Families can choose from the superior queen rooms or a classic family room sleeping up to four guests, or opt for two connecting rooms if travelling as a larger family.

The hotel’s restaurant, Le Benkay, offers Japanese cuisine and the N’Cafe serves a large menu of simple dishes and seasonal vegetables inspired by French cuisine. There’s also a kids’ menu and buffet to tickle young taste buds.

If your children have any energy left at the end of a fun-filled day, you can pick up board games and puzzles from reception, head to the outdoor playground or use the heated indoor pool for a small additional fee. If they prefer to rest those weary legs, however, the rooms also have a TV and great Wi-Fi connection, allowing them to chill out and unwind before bed.

“We stayed at the Holiday Inn, it was pretty nice for a 4-star and about £120 a night, quite reasonable for very central Paris.”

Our verdict

In the city’s famous Golden Triangle, The Holiday Inn Elysees is a contemporary hotel close to high-end shops and bistros. With the metro and the main attractions located just a short walk away, the hotel makes an excellent Parisian base.

Parc Monceau, a 20-acre oasis with a rich history is a 15-minute walk away. Children will love the park’s two playgrounds, charming carousel, pony rides and snack area, allowing you to sit back and relax with a drink or tuck into delicious ice cream and crepes. It’s also home to a great number of birds, lush green forest, a fish pond and ducks… All in the heart of Paris.

You can opt for a King or Premier King room, both of which can accommodate families of up to four and even choose your perfect pillow from the Pillow Menu to guarantee a good night’s sleep. For younger guests, the Holiday Inn offers board games and puzzles to help kids relax at the end of the day.

While there are plenty of restaurants nearby, kids under 12 years old can eat for free any time of the day at one of the on-site restaurants. As you may expect from a Holiday Inn, the buffet-style breakfasts also offer great variety. With a choice of hot or continental breakfasts and options including pastries, cereal and fresh fruit, you’ll have plenty of energy to kick start your jam-packed itinerary.

Our verdict

Surrounded by Montmatre’s delightful cobbled streets, the stylish Hôtel des Arts Montmartre has a charming history. Purchased by the Lameyre family in 1966, the hotel has been passed down from generation to generation and is widely praised for its friendly staff and excellent customer service.

The Montmartre district has a homey, village-like feel and is jam-packed with delightful stores, boutiques, cafés and restaurants - making it a great place for children to practise their school French. Close to the Montmartre Museum,  Louvre and Notre Dame cathedral, it’s also a short walk away from the Abbesses and Blanche Metro Stations, allowing convenient travel to the more traditional tourist attractions.

It’s worth noting that you won’t find family rooms at the Hôtel des Arts Montmartre, so whilst cots for babies are free of charge, it’s best suited to single parents or families travelling with teenagers who will welcome the privacy of their own space. Known for its chic interior and high-quality cotton percale sheets, rumour has it, they also have the comfiest beds in the city.

Our verdict

With a warm and cosy atmosphere, this rustic Latin Quarter hotel has just 42 rooms and is located a short walk from some of Paris’ top attractions including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Jardin du Luxembourg and Notre Dame.

Overlooking the Odéon Theatre, this recently renovated hotel allows families great access to Parisian art and history, with daily performances and a wide range of entertainment to enjoy right on your doorstep.

For an extra adventure with your children, Jardin de Plantes is also nearby - a sight not to be missed. A vast woodland that stretches across several hectares, visitors will find architectural buildings, the National Museum of Natural History and enclosures where 600 animals are housed, from red pandas to snow leopards, Arabian Oryx and orangutans.

Hôtel Michelet Odéon has a range of cosy but comfortable family rooms for families of up to four people. Alternatively, you can upgrade to a suite, which offers two separate but connected bedrooms that allow you to continue your evening once the kids have fallen asleep. With a flat-screen TV and satellite channels, you can even catch up on your soaps while looking forward to your well-earned continental breakfast in the morning.

“We’ve stayed in the connecting rooms at Montfleuri Paris. Great location, friendly staff with good English, bright cheerful decor, a nice little patio and lots of choices for breakfast.”

Our verdict

If you’re travelling to Paris with younger children, the charming Montfluri boutique hotel makes an excellent choice. With a central location just steps from the Arc de Triomphe, you can be sure to see some of Paris’s most iconic sights without worrying about those little legs getting tired. The Eiffel Tower is around a 20-minute walk or a short hop on the metro.

With a choice of Deluxe Doubles or Prestige Family Rooms that can accommodate up to two adults and two children, you can also opt for connecting rooms for larger families or when travelling with teens. Children are really given the royal treatment here, with prices adjusted for younger guests and babysitting and childcare services available upon request.

The hotel features a cosy patio and a lounge area where the family can unwind and relax while enjoying a drink, reading in peace or playing a board game together before bed. The rooms are also fully soundproofed, so you can be sure of a peaceful night’s sleep, despite the hotel’s central location.

With a hearty continental breakfast each morning, you can start your day off right with pancakes, baguettes, cheese, fresh fruit, eggs and a choice of hot and cold drink options, along with a divine assortment of French pastries. Alternatively, if a busy day exploring means you’re lucky enough to get a lie-in, the hotel also offers in-room breakfast services at no extra cost.

“It's fabulous. Very central to everything (about 12 mins on the metro from Gare du Nord if you’re travelling on Eurostar), lovely restaurants nearby, free cold drinks mini-bar in the room, replenished on request, glorious Belle Époque dining room and best hotel buffet breakfast.”

Our verdict

Close to all the main attractions, including Palais Garnier, the Louvre, and the Arc de Triomphe, the 4-star Hôtel L’Echiquier Opera Paris is perfectly placed for a culture-packed city break.

Despite its ‘tucked-away’ location, you’ll find a variety of entertainment close by, including theatre shows, cafés. High on the kids’ wishlist will be the famous Chocolate Museum, where children can learn all about the history of chocolate, from the humble cocoa bean to the delicious samples they can enjoy during the tour.

After a busy day exploring the city, you can head back to the hotel for dinner at the Le 38 Bar Lounge, which boasts the ambience of 1920s Paris. You can even take advantage of the hotel’s babysitting services if you want to embrace your romantic surroundings.

When it’s time for bed, settle down in a comfortable family suite or two connecting rooms, with a delightful view of the courtyard or quiet street below. With a modern decor and red, white and blue theme throughout, there’s certainly no forgetting you’re in Paris when you first open your eyes in the morning.

“It’s 2 minutes from the Sacre Coeur and Pigalle & loads of restaurants and other stuff. We loved the hotel (we plan to go back!) and area and it's not a bad price. Don't go for the spa though, it's a bit rubbish. We live in Brittany and drove in so couldn't comment on metro links, but it is near the Gard du Nord.”

This family-owned boutique is famous for hosting artists from around the world. In the heart of the Montmartre district and just steps away from the Basilica of Sacred Heart, the 4-star Hôtel Môm'Art is known for its peaceful and relaxing ambience - but don’t let that put you off - children are very much welcome.

Near the railway, metro and train station, the hotel has a prime location where guests have full access to wander the city, while also appreciating the village atmosphere of Montmartre. Many top Paris attractions are within walking distance, including Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre.

The Junior Suites make a stylish and luxurious base for families. With a large bay window and a 7ft balcony, you’ll want to wake up early to enjoy the view. Thanks to the Nespresso machine in the room, you can also kick start your day with your favourite brew while admiring the Parisian rooftops.

The Hôtel Môm'Art has a spacious courtyard restaurant offering tapas, lunch and dinner options made from local produce. While the area surrounding the hotel may be busy, within the hotel walls you will be able to find peace and quiet for quality family time.

“We recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza at Place de La République, and would def stay again. The Republique metro stop was right outside the hotel, so travel was easy. And it was walking distance to Le Marais and George Pompidou centre, and the canal St Martin area which was nice for a wander.”

Our verdict

If you’ve been looking for a Paris hotel that checks all the boxes, the Crowne Plaza is certainly a great contender. Near five metro lines, the hotel’s excellent location allows you to travel across all of Paris with ease, even with children in tow. If you’re keen to immerse yourself in the Parisian hustle and bustle, you’ll love the lively local streets near the hotel,  filled with designer shops and art galleries as well as a wide selection of family-friendly restaurants, café and bars.

The infamous Marche des Enfants Rouges, the city’s oldest indoor food market, is just a short walk away and a great place to venture with the kids for a quick lunch or snack. For a real treat, however, head back to the hotel’s interior courtyard - one of the largest inner hotel courtyards in Paris. Here you can dine alfresco in the afternoon sun, enjoying a varied menu of lunch and dinner options or selecting from a kids’ menu for younger guests.

With connecting and adjoining rooms available for families, you can expect clean and comfortable beds, Nespresso machines and mini-fridges, helping create a calm and welcoming place to get some shut-eye after a busy day of city sightseeing.

“We stayed in the Lux Hotel Picpus. lovely area and right across was a metro stop which was on a good line for accessing most things. it wasn't very dear either but clean and comfortable.”

Our verdict

The charming Lux Hôtel Picpus is a picturesque hotel that pairs an authentic Parisian vibe with reasonable rates, proving you don’t need to be under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower to make the most of your trip to Paris.

While located in a less touristy location and set a little further from the city centre, the Hotel Lux Picpus is less than 10 minutes from the Place de la Nation metro, so you can still tick off the main attractions with relative ease.

The newly renovated hotel provides a compact but comfortable base for families - including those who may need to book multiple rooms. Family Rooms at Picpus offer one double and one single bed, while the larger Superior Family Rooms can accommodate families of up to five.

Before heading out for a day of exploring, you can treat yourself to a generous continental buffet breakfast, with a wide choice of hot and cold drinks, traditional French pastries and crepes.

This small and exclusive five-star hotel has just eight rooms and suites and prides itself on its pristine location that is filled with history, art and cultural heritage.

To make your visit with children more comfortable, Hotel Dupond-Smith can accommodate younger children by adding a bed for children under the age of three,  as well as a baby bath, night light, baby change mat or a high chair available upon request. Things to do in Paris with children

It may be called the ‘City of Love’, but don’t let this title fool you. While the city is full of romantic wonders for couples, it is also the perfect destination for kids to discover and explore.

The vibrant city has a lot to offer young travellers, who are likely to enjoy the picturesque views like the iconic Eiffel Tower, as well as the variety of museums which offer entertainment and discovery for the whole family.

As well as the obvious tourist attractions in Paris (including Disneyland of course), there are loads of open spaces that are perfect for children of all ages. Here are just a few of the best:

  • Parc des Buttes-Chaumont - The hillside park is a spectacle for the whole family to enjoy thanks to the serene pond, waterfalls, suspension bridge and spectacular views, combined with a giant playground, donkey rides and carnival games galore.

  • Jardin des Plantes - is home to big cats, red pandas and a primate house, while the Aquarium de Paris showcases an array of beautiful marine life. Children will love creeping their way through the shark tunnel, before getting up close and personal at the petting zoo.

  • Jardin d’Acclimatation - The only amusement park in Paris is home to thrilling rides, puppet shows, acrobatic obstacle courses and fun water-themed activities all in exceptional natural surroundings.

The list is endless when it comes to sightseeing in Paris, but if you’re hesitant about the family-friendly attractions, rest assured, the list is plentiful.

Do I need to hire a car in Paris?

If you’re only planning a short visit to Paris, you won’t need to hire a car. Thanks to the impressive metro network and attractions that are relatively close to one another, the city can easily be explored by public transport or on foot. In fact, street parking in the heart of Paris can be challenging and overwhelming, therefore, hiring a car could actually add some unnecessary stress to your trip.

Where can I find good prices when booking a hotel?

Choosing the right hotel for your holiday can make or break your trip. That’s why you must do all your research ahead of time.

Whether you’re looking for accommodation in the heart of Paris or for a room based away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can always count on Hotels.com or Booking.com to give you the rundown on all the hotels on your shortlist and help you make an informed decision.

How to find the best flights to Paris

When searching for flights, it’s always a good idea to consult sites like Skyscanner or Expedia to find the best deals. Flights usually start around £44 one way (London to Paris), but make sure you have a look around to find the best flight times and prices to suit your family and your budget.

It’s also worth considering the Eurostar, especially if you’re travelling out of London, as this can sometimes work out cheaper when you factor in the cost of additional luggage.
