WYOMING, MI – Police identified a body that was found floating in the Grand River near Grandville as 36-year-old Matthew Hinton.

The Kent County Medical Examiner’s office performed an autopsy and ruled Hinton’s death as an accidental drowning.

Wyoming police are still investigating the circumstances that brought Hinton into the waters of the Grand River, the department announced Tuesday, April 18.

Hinton was first discovered around 2:50 p.m. on Monday, April 17, in the 2300 block of Indian Mounds Drive after a caller reported a suspicious object in the river.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Department dive team responded and recovered Hinton’s body from the water.
