Wayne and Coleen Rooney could be splashing out £7 for a pint and coughing up £22 for fish and chips in their rumoured new haunt, the swanky "Chelsea-on-Sea".

The football legend and his missus are said to be eyeing up a move to Salcombe in Devon as he steps into the managerial boots at Plymouth Argyle. This posh resort has been crowned the priciest seaside spot in Britain, with average house prices teetering close to the £1 million mark.

Not just famed for its stunning beaches and idyllic estuary views, Salcombe is also notorious for its wallet-thinning lifestyle. Boasting one of Britain's top beer gardens, the local brew here can hit you with a hefty £7 per pint.

The Ferry Inn, which snagged 10th place on Big 7 Travel's 2023 list of the UK's best beer gardens, serves up pints that'll set you back £7.20 even steeper than London's average pint price of £6.75, as noted by Finder. But the Rooneys' bank balance might take more hits.

Should they fancy some classic British grub by the sea, Dick and Wills is the go-to, especially "famous" for its fish and chips that would cost Wayne a whopping £22.95. Even a burger there is priced at £19.95. In stark contrast, the Office for National Statistics' 2023 figures peg the average UK price for fish and chips at a mere £9.

Dick and Wills tout themselves as offering a "magical food and drink experience overlooking the water", potentially making it the perfect chill-out spot for the Rooneys after match-day stresses.

Devon has plenty of chippies around — but what used to be a cheap Friday night treat, isn't the case anymore. Whilst most local chippies and takeaway fish and chip shops will set you back around a tenner, sitting in a restaurant and opting for fish and chips could set you back as much as £25.

The Rooney clan might fancy a bit of retail therapy in the local high street, with posh boutiques like Henri Lloyd and Musto offering top-notch men's clothing that would suit any football manager to a tee. At Henri Lloyd, a swanky "consort jacket" could set you back around £350, while Musto's "hybrid vest" gilets are going for £112, ensuring Wayne Rooney could be the snappiest dresser in the Championship.

But it isn't just the 'posh shops' that are expensive. In the summer, Salcombe booms with tourists meaning that even the little souvenir and gift shops charge some dear prices.

Naturally, the Rooney's will want to kit out their new pad with some swish decor and furnishings. They might have a gander at Susie Watson Design, where a single metre of curtain fabric can whisk away £285 from your wallet.

Salcombe holds the title for the priciest coastal town in Britain to buy a house, with average property prices soaring over £970,000, as per Lloyds' analysis of Land Registry figures. The most extravagant pad on offer in the area is a whopping £5.95 million six-bedder named Thalassa, boasting over 3,000 square feet of living space, say Strutt and Parker estate agents.

It comes with its own slice of beachfront and a private boathouse. With six bedrooms, it's an ideal match for Wayne and Coleen Rooney's brood of four: Kai, 13, Klay, 10, Kit, seven, and Cass, five. Should Thalassa not tickle their fancy, there's always Bridleway House, with a price tag of £3.5 million.

Knight Frank estate agents bill it as "an exceptional contemporary family home", built in 2017 and just a casual 10-minute jaunt from the beloved North Sands beach.

The family currently resides in a lavish £20 million mansion in Cheshire, boasting six bedrooms, a home cinema, grand stables and an underground spa. After being let go by Championship club Birmingham City in January, the former England striker secured the managerial role at Plymouth.

Last week The Sun reported that the Rooneys were considering a move to Salcombe, before Wayne confirmed he would live locally with his family.
