The opening date for the largest wave pool in Europe has been announced.

When it swings its doors open to the public, Lost Short Surf Resort will boast Europe's largest wave pool, luxury lodges, a wellness treatment studio, restaurants and shopping facilities.

What is Scotland's first inland surf resort will welcome in customers from September and is currently on a "recruitment drive" to fill 100 roles. The positions available include surfing instructors and lifeguards.

The creators of the resort have described it as a "world-class facility", aiming to revolutionise Scottish tourism. Conveniently located, Lost Short is just a ten-minute drive from Edinburgh Airport and less than half an hour from the city centre. For those travelling from Glasgow, it's only a 45-minute drive.

The expansive 60-acre country park offers visitors the opportunity to experience a wave pool that's three times the size of a football pitch, reports Edinburgh Live.

Andy Roger, the new chief executive of Lost Shore Surf Resort, expressed his excitement about the upcoming opening: "Lost Shore Surf Resort is going to make a huge splash when we open in September. Being a Living Wage Employer we are committed to building a fantastic team to help us deliver our vision for Lost Shore Surf Resort.

"The opening of any new business is an exciting moment. The build up to the first day is part of that journey with the new team learning about the resort and becoming well placed to deliver for our visitors from the day we open.

"We have a number of dream roles for those who love surfing, but you don't have to surf to work for us. We have lots of different roles available and we are looking for passionate and motivated individuals who will be excited to be part of one of the most unique openings anywhere in the world this year and thrive in a diverse and inclusive work environment," he added. "If you think that is you then please get in touch."

Marc Crothall MBE, chief executive of the Scottish Tourism Alliance, said: "This spectacular resort is going to be a real game changer for Scottish tourism. Not only will this attract people from all over the UK, but from right across the world."

"To have an asset like this just 10 minutes from Edinburgh Airport and on the doorstep of an already world famous tourism destination is fantastic. These new pictures show what an incredible place this will be. I cannot wait to see it open in September."

In other news for large swimming pool fans, it was announced last year that an enormous water park costing £250million and featuring 20 pools is currently being built. It is hoped it will open within the next two years.

Adults and kids alike will be able to splash around in different pools, take on over 35 water slides, or simply unwind at the UK's first indoor beach complete with a wave machine. Therme Manchester will offer all of this alongside thermal baths, an on-site spa and 30 saunas, as well as a 'wellbeing garden' and fitness classes.
