PDC boss Matt Porter has revealed that a World Series darts event could be the choice for the first-ever event in Saudi Arabia.

Appearing on the Online Darts YouTube channel, Porter was coy about a potential expansion to Saudi Arabia for darts as he blamed the difficulty of predicting the future.

When the reporter asked if the World Championships could make a trip to Saudi, Porter said: "I mean 'ever' is a very difficult word to give an accurate answer to because what do you mean by ever? In a 100 years time or in 50 years time, in 25 years time?"

Once it was whittled down to the "near future", the PDC chief executive replied: "Saudi Arabia is obviously investing heavily in sport and they've invested in other sports that Matchroom, PDC's parent company, deliver but we put on our best event at Alexandra Palace, we put on the world's most loved darts event, we put on the biggest darts event at Alexandra Palace."

He also stressed that PDC is not known for "making silly decisions" and that considerations would be made before any talks would begin.

Porter explained: "We're not well known for making silly decisions, I'd like to think - some of your viewers may disagree but generally we like to think that we don't make that many silly decisions. It would be a little bit of a strange move to go straight from Alexandra Palace to a country that's never ever had a darts tournament before with your biggest event.

"Yeah so it's not something I think is necessarily in the immediate future - who knows what the long-term future will bring. I mean, as I say, it's an everchanging world but the World Championship is a phenomenal success at Alexandra Palace - they're a great venue for us so it's certainly not top of our priorities to find a new venue for the Worlds."

The PDC boss was then asked if a World Series event could be held in Saudi Arabia - and this is something that would be the "logical" decision for the organisation, according to Porter.

He said: "The thing is, the World Series you know, it's pretty obvious and not difficult to see that the World Series is the method that we go into new markets with.

"You test the water as it's over two days, you give local players a platform to play, you introduce the event to local broadcast partners and you try to grow it from there. So, that has been traditionally over the last decade the route we've taken into new markets - that and the European tour which clearly wouldn't apply in Saudi Arabia.

"But yeah, that's to me, if I was a fan, I would think that was a more logical move than necessarily moving the World Championship there."
