Micky Adams is a leading contender to take over as Southampton boss after Glenn Hoddle and Chris Coleman dropped out of the running.

Saints are ready to interview several candidates, including their former player Adams, who last managed at Coventry last season.

Hoddle has rejected an approach, while former Fulham and Real Sociedad chief Coleman has been discounted by the board.

Former Saints boss Lawrie McMenemy, a director, will play a key role in appointing George Burley's successor. Adams played for Saints when McMenemy was director of football in the early 1990s.

Saints could also be tempted to move for MK Dons boss Paul Ince.
