A couple had the spookiest wedding imaginable and took the 'til death do us part' section of their vows literally - by getting married at a funeral home. Norma Nino, 27, arrived at her unique wedding in a hearse and said "I do" to Axel Nino, 29, surrounded by pumpkins and coffins. And of course, she wore a stunning black wedding dress.

The self-confessed Halloween super fan opted for a gothic-themed wedding despite initial reservations from some of their friends and family. But their guests were pleasantly surprised by the unconventional nuptials and Norma, who works as a mortician, described the day as "perfect".

Norma, from Reedley, California, said: "I've always loved Halloween and I knew I wanted to get married at the funeral home.

"It was one of the first funeral homes to be run by a woman, and it's played such a huge part in my life as I worked there for years.

"I'm obsessed with Halloween, and I go all out every year with decorations and costumes.

"I've always been into a more gothic, grungy style, and so a Halloween-themed wedding was perfect for me.

"My family are quite superstitious so were scared at first, but on the day everyone said how 'me' it was and that they enjoyed experiencing a different kind of wedding.

"Arriving in the hearse was the ultimate celebration of our special day, people were shocked but they found it funny too!"

After the vows, which were held in the area usually reserved for cremation services, the wedding party headed for a Halloween-themed reception complete with a red and black colour scheme, pumpkins and hanging candles.

Norma found the perfect gothic-style dress from Cocomelody, which featured stunning black lace and a black veil.

The pair tied the knot on October 1, 2022 - a date specifically chosen to mark the start of Norma's favourite month.

Keen to make their day as spooky as possible they even asked guests to come in 1930’s style costumes.

Norma and Axel hit it off in August 2018 after meeting on Tinder and luckily her daughter, Samantha, 11, loved him too.

After two years of dating, Axel, an operator assistant proposed to Norma in May 2021, with a puppy rather than a ring.

The former mortician explained: "We were picking up our new dog, Mochi, two, and he got so overcome with emotion that he got down on one knee!

"It was such a surreal moment.

"I was fussing over this puppy that was licking my face, and then suddenly Axel asked me to marry him!"

The besotted couple initially planned to get married at Yosemite National Park, but Halloween obsessed Norma had other spookier ideas for their big day.

"Axel wasn't sure at first, but a few months before the wedding he decided to go for it and let me have the wedding of my dreams," Norma said.

"On the day, he saw that I was in my element and said that we definitely made the right decision."

Despite the stress of planning a wedding, Norma relished carefully selecting the Halloween details for her big day.

Reflecting on the event, Norma said: "It was such a magical day and it was perfect for us.

"If anyone was considering having a Halloween themed wedding, I'd say go for it!

"It's your day so other people's opinions don't matter.

"Axel is the love of my life, I'm so excited to experience married life with him."

Axel added "I'm a little more traditional so I was unsure about the wedding being too spooky.

"But I love her so wanted to make a compromise.

"On the day it was surreal, it felt like it went by too fast! Time flies when you're having fun.

"At the end of the day, I was so glad we went for the Halloween theme.

"It was phenomenal seeing how it all turned out!

"I'm so happy that after all these years I can finally call Norma my wife!"
