Amazon has increased the minimum amount you have to spend to qualify for free deliveries from £25 to £35.
It appears the change was introduced this week, with angry customers taking to social media to vent their frustration. Writing on X, previously known as Twitter, one person said: “Adding an extra tenner to spend £35 for free delivery is a bit extortionate.”
Another said: “£35 minimum for Amazon free delivery now if you don't have prime wtf.” A third person added: “Time to shop elsewhere.” A fourth said: ”Looks like I'll be back to buying in store now!” However, orders that include £10 or more of eligible books still qualify for free delivery.
There is another way to avoid paying the increased cost, by ordering an item to be collected from a "Pickup Location" or an Amazon locker. However, this option isn't available on all items sold on Amazon. Amazon Prime members get free delivery on most orders, although they have to pay £1.99 for same-day delivery orders that come under £20.
Amazon Prime membership costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year. If same-day delivery is available for that Prime item, you normally need to place your order before midday to get your package by 10pm. The fee for customers who are not Prime members is £5.99.
An Amazon spokesperson told The Sun: "There are a number of external factors influencing shipping costs right now. We are constantly innovating and working to bring more value to our customers, and customers who are not Prime members will receive free shipping on all orders above £35. Prime members will continue to benefit from unlimited fast, free One-Day Delivery on millions of items regardless of order value.”
