Film fans can now watch Poor Things at home, as the Emma Stone movie has finally hit streaming platforms. From The Favourite director Yorgos Lanthimos, the outlandish comedy-drama has swept this awards season and is tipped for success at the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday (March 10).
It has already picked up two Golden Globes and five BAFTAs and is nominated in 11 categories at the upcoming Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress for Stone. The 35-year-old was named best lead actress at both the Golden Globes and BAFTAs – a strong indicator for how she will fare at the Oscars.
If she takes home the award on Sunday, it will be her second Best Actress Oscar following her turn in Damien Chazelle’s La La Land. Stone also bagged a nomination in the Best Picture category as one of the film’s producers, while her co-star Mark Ruffalo earned a nod for Best Supporting Actor.

Based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel of the same name, Poor Things explores the bizarre and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn though hungry for the worldliness she is lacking until she runs off with slick and debauched lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (Ruffalo) on a whirlwind adventure across the continents.
Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation. Poor Things premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in September, where it won the coveted Golden Lion award.
It was only released in UK cinemas in January, but cinephiles can already watch it from the comfort of their home as it launches on streaming and video-on-demand platforms.
