ABOUT THE BECAS PROGRAM:
At Centro Hispano of Dane County we believe that the time to invest in our Latinx youth is NOW. One of the greatest barriers that young Latinx students face when it comes to accessing, and staying enrolled in college, is the cost of higher education. For young Dreamers, this barrier is only more pronounced as they are ineligible for in-state tuition at many American colleges. Through the Becas (Scholarships) Program, Centro offers annual scholarships to students who have been involved with the agency or enrolled in one of Centro’s youth programs to help further their educational goals and help cover the cost of higher education. Centro has been awarding scholarships to students for more than 20 years and formalized the program in 2016. In 2023 the Becas Program culminated in a significant luncheon held on June 24, at Madison College TRUAX Campus. This event served as a joyous celebration, recognizing the achievements of a total of 6 high school students, 4 college scholars, and 1 graduate student who have been awarded scholarships by Centro Hispano. These scholarships hold a noble purpose: to promote educational equity among Latinx students and to open pathways for aspiring computer scientists, radiographers, architects, forensic scientists, psychologists, and nurses. |

The scholarships not only provide crucial financial assistance but also serve as a vote of confidence from the community, fostering a sense of ambition and cultivating a sense of belonging for the next generation. -Madison 365, June 23rd, 2023 -La Comunidad News, June 29th, 2023 |
