And Hamas is Qatar
There are around 120 Israeli hostages still held captive in Gaza. In November 2023, MEMRI President and Founder Yigal Carmon published two articles about how to rescue the hostages as quickly as possible.
In order to save the hostages, we must first set the record straight. Qatar is not an honest broker. It has been playing a deadly double game with the U.S. and the West for many years. As far as Hamas is concerned, Qatar built it up from a small, weak Gaza group into a global organization with tremendous terrorist capabilities. With its massive funding, Qatar made it possible for Hamas to grab control of the Gaza Strip from the PLO and to transform it into an Islamic extremism-based society. Hence, Qatar is not an impartial mediator, but it is de facto Hamas's patron.

It was on the Qatari Al-Jazeera TV that Hamas military commander Muhammad Deif declared war on the morning of Saturday, October 7. And it comes as no surprise that it was in the home of Al-Jazeera journalist Abdullah Al-Jamal, in Nuseirat in the Gaza Strip, that three Israeli hostages were held captive.
Hamas lives off economic and political support from Qatar. Hence, Hamas's life depends on Qatar. Only if it feels threatened will Qatar truly help. Only if Qatar's very existence is put in question by using political, economic, legal, and security pressure will it move to help the U.S. and Israel to release the hostages. Right now, Qatar is cheating them both while trying with all its might to help Hamas.
