Cover Story (view full-size image): OTC PPIs in Canada have altered pharmacist treatment options for heartburn. To explore how current scheduling may impact pharmacist treatvment choices, an online survey in Ontario and Québec examined their recommendations for two hypothetical heartburn cases. Approaches varied between cases and provinces. Ontario pharmacists favoured a combination of H2RA + antacid for milder cases, while Québec pharmacists preferred H2RA on its own. Both tended to recommend switching medications or medical referral if symptoms persisted. These findings have sparked debates regarding optimal therapeutic approaches and the impact of drug scheduling on patient care. View this paper
