Cover Story (view full-size image): This study addresses the internal rural–urban migration intentions of farmers in Bangladesh using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). A TPB model was developed to explain the intentions of farmers to migrate for paid employment and tested against data from 372 randomly chosen migrated farmers. Data were collected via telephone interviews. The attitudes towards migration (ATTs) and subjective norms (SNs) significantly impact migration intentions (MIs), while perceived behavioural control (PBC) does not. This study suggests that the TPB model can explain farmers’ migration decisions, indicating that policies based on this model may effectively reduce internal migration. View this paper
