Cover Story (view full-size image): The neuroimaging field is, in many ways, still metabolizing the dynamic imaging revolution that began in 2010. Among the discoveries made in the intervening fourteen years, it has been found that brain function appears to operate in a remarkably low dimensional space. This makes the potential problem of accessing and quantifying brain dynamics both simpler and more difficult: simpler because researchers need fewer variables, and more difficult because mapping the dimensions of or succinctly measuring signal trajectories in this space remain unsolved problems. We propose a means to map these dimensions via ICA and to quantify the resultant signal trajectory repertoires. This framework identifies meaningful alterations between clinical groups and links functional alterations to some cognitive scores. View this paper
