Named in honour of its experimental approach to research and design, R+D.LAB was founded in 2006 by Jay Vosoghi. The Italian creative studio unites modern aesthetics, traditional manufacturing and purposeful creation to make homeware pieces informed by architecture, art and fashion. The company prides itself on working closely with talented craftspeople and labels, as displayed in collections developed with fashion designer Lee Mathews, New York photographer Alice Gao and lifestyle magazine Monocle. Core principles of the label include purity, thoughtfulness and functionality – for example, each piece of glassware is crafted by one of five artisans over the course of two days, using third-generation mouth-blowing glass techniques.
