It's a sad day for the PGA Tour as two-time winner Grayson Murray passed away on Saturday morning. The Tour confirmed his passing, which came after he withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday due to illness.

In a heartfelt memo to the membership released on Saturday afternoon, commissioner Jay Monahan expressed the Tour's sense of loss, stating, "The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. There is nothing we can do but mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones."

Grayson Murray and the day he opened up about his struggles with alcohol and depression

Monahan also mentioned that after speaking with Murray's parents, it was decided that tournament play at Colonial would continue. He noted, "They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes."

Murray's passing comes after a recent victory at the Sony Open, where he ended a six-year winless streak. In an interview earlier this year, he spoke optimistically about his future, expressing how he had rediscovered his faith and was engaged to be married to Christiana Ritchie, whom he met in 2021.

He said, "I wouldn't trade anything. I have a beautiful fiance. I have beautiful parents. I have beautiful nephews, siblings. Everyone in my life right now who is close to me, who has been through the struggles with me, it's all a team effort. I think this is just the start of something really special."

Mental health struggles plagued late Grayson Murray

Murray had been open about his battles with anxiety and depression, as well as seeking treatment for alcohol abuse. Despite his struggles, he was considered one of the best prospects in the country during his younger years, winning the prestigious Junior Worlds three times and making an immediate impact once he landed on the PGA Tour, claiming the 2017 Barbasol Championship.

It's a reminder that even those who seem to have it all can struggle with inner demons. Murray's journey serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health and seeking help when needed. As we mourn the loss of this talented golfer, let's remember his words of hope and resilience as an inspiration to cherish our loved ones and seek support in times of need.
