World number one golfer Scottie Scheffer was arrested on felony and other charges on Friday, May 17 outside the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky, after allegedly injuring a police officer while attempting to drive by the scene of a fatal accident. Strangely, no body camera footage exists of the arresting officer.

A week after the incident footage appears of what happened leading up to the arrest, the footage of Scheffer's arrest looks like a complete overreaction. The camera across the street shows Scottie making a left turn into Valhalla Golf Club, the police officer running alongside the car and reaching for the driver's door and then arresting him.

Newly released images show the truth of what happened

Scheffler was charged with a felony count of second-degree assault on a police officer, along with misdemeanor counts of third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic, according to Jefferson County court records.

But the newly revealed images show the truth of what happened. What is seen is that he turns left at a very slow speed and stops. A police officer approaches the driver's door as more officers approach and then he is arrested.

Scheffler's attorney, Steve Romines, said it was a misunderstanding and that the golfer never disobeyed the officer's orders.

Doubts about what happened were raised when there was no evidence of what happened because the officer's body camera was not on at the time of the initial contact with Scheffler and remained off throughout the arrest.

Scottie was released from jail later in the day and returned to the Valhalla golf course for the second round of the tournament. Shortly after 10 a.m. local time, he hit his first shot of the day, receiving a round of applause from the crowd, and birdied the first hole.
