It was a rather refined list we threw at you in this category, with homegrown independents and chains as well as national names all represented in the final five.

And it was one of those fresh faces from out of town that you picked to take the CityLife Awards 2015 Best Restaurant - and that was Lunya, Liverpool born Spanish and Catalan tapas spot which now has a Manchester site in the elegant surroundings of Barton Arcade.

We have to admit, Lunya was highly-rated by our own writers, too, and when 34 per cent of you chose it for the crown we were not at all surprised.

Our own reviewer, Andy Cronshaw, awarded it a rare five stars, commenting that Lunya - owned by Spanish cuisine advocates Peter and Elaine Kinsella - offered a more in depth journey into tapas dining than anywhere else.

Peter and Elaine have also carried out a sympathetic restoration of the historic building, revealing tons of original features, while also injecting lots of authentic Spanish style with colourful decor.

Happily, a city centre favourite and master vegetarian restaurant 1847 was the runner up for the gong, taking a 22 per cent share of the vote, while hot on its heels was London steak specialist Hawksmoor, which 17 per cent of you threw your support behind.
