Going for a Boxing Day walk is an annual tradition for many. It’s a chance to walk off all those mince pies and blow the cobwebs away.

While there are dozens of walks to choose from on our doorstep, one gorgeous route just outside of Greater Manchester has been named among the most popular Boxing Day walks in the UK. According to research published by FitFlop, Dunham Massey is the second-most popular route in the country for the annual post-Christmas walk.

It was only beaten to first place by Cragside in Northumberland, meanwhile Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire came in third place. Dunham Massey wasn’t the only place in the North West to feature on the list - Tatton Park came ranked 8th on the list, which was compiled by looking at the number of Google searches for each walk.”

On Dunham Massey, the authors of the study said: “Home to one of the finest collections of veteran trees in England, it’s not hard to see why Dunham Massey was searched for 74,000 times in December.” It described Dunham Massey as a “beautiful trail” where you can spot fallow deer along the way. With a 300-acre deer park, there are dozens of routes you can take through Dunham Massey, so even though it is popular, you’ll still be able to find a quiet spot.

Tatton Park is a great alternative to Dunham Massey, and still offers Christmas-card worthy scenes thanks to its herd of fallow deer. The authors said: “In eighth place, Tatton Park (with 27,100 December searches) offers a great walk for families. It has 1,000 acres of parkland encompassing ancient trees, waterways, wildlife and red and fallow deer.”
