The owners of a popular Caribbean takeaway in Trafford have announced they will be closing down after four years in business.

Caribbean Creations, located on Florence Street in Sale, will officially close on Saturday (June 29) after owners admitted that the ‘increased costs associated with running a business’ no longer made it feasible to continue trading.

Run by chef Valerie Leveridge, and her husband Alvin, the takeaway first opened its doors in August 2020 within the Delicia Deli unit before taking on its new moniker in the same venue a few years later. Since then it has built up a reputation for its homemade and traditional Caribbean dishes.

The takeaway's menu featured the likes of jerk chicken and curry goat, alongside salt fish fritters, chicken wings, jerk halloumi, rice and peas and fried plantain. The venue also sold a variety of freshly-made deserts, including brownies and cheesecakes.

In a post on social media earlier this month, Valerie and Alvin announced the upcoming closure and said it was the ‘end of the road’ for the local business. The post wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that we will be closing our doors at the end of this month.

“Due to the ever increasing costs associated with running a business, it is no longer possible for us to continue to operate our takeaway. Our goal was to create delicious homemade food and share our love for traditional Caribbean flavours with the public.

“We are extremely proud of what we have achieved over the last four years. We would like to thank all of our customers for your continued support throughout our time here at Florence Street. It has been an honour and privilege to show you what real Caribbean food is and we cannot express how much it has meant to have been received so well by you all.”

But the owners of the restaurant, which will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week before closing for good, said they have plans to keep the Caribbean Creations going strong as a catering business.

The post added: “Although this is the end of the road for our takeaway, I am excited to announce that we will still be operating our catering business for your parties, corporate events and functions. We will also be selling our homemade patties on a larger scale, but more info on this to follow.

“It has been one hell of a journey and from the bottom of my heart I would once again like to thank all of our loyal customers.”

The news was met with sadness and disappointment from some of the takeaway's loyal customers. One person responded by saying: “I’m so, so sad to hear this, your food is a delight! Good luck for the future." Another wrote: "So sad to hear this, we love your food! All the best with your next adventure xx”

Another person added: “Gutted is an understatement, good luck for the future." One other wrote: "Sorry to read this. It was lovely having you around the corner. Best of luck."
