Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has said Paul Scholes once injured him in training, jokingly claiming that Sir Alex Ferguson told him to.
Rooney is regarded as one of United's greatest-ever players having scored a club-record 253 goals between 2004 and 2017. The former club captain won numerous trophies at Old Trafford including five Premier League titles, a Champions League in 2008 and the FA Cup in 2016.
But the England great famously handed in a transfer request back in October 2010 after questioning the club's direction after they missed out on the Premier League title in 2009/10 to Chelsea. United had been unable to keep hold of star players Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez leading to Rooney's request to leave.

And the recently appointed Plymouth Argyle manager has opened up on an incident in training at United in which he claims Scholes injured him after he asked to leave.
"You wanted to win them games [Friday training matches], some of the tackles which went in were horrific," Rooney said on the Overlap with Gary Neville, brought to you by Sky Bet. "He [Sir Alex Ferguson] used to stop the game and make us go in. Scholesy [Paul Scholes] put me out the day before a game.
"It was the day the gaffer did his press conference where I wanted to leave, so I’m sure the gaffer had a word with him before training. No, I’m joking."
Rooney ended up signing a new five-year contract only two days after stating unequivocally that he wanted to leave Old Trafford. United went on to win the Premier League title in 2010/11 before winning a 20th top-flight crown in Ferguson's final season back in 2013.
The former forward-turned-midfielder left United in 2017 to return to Everton before spells at DC United and Derby County ahead of his playing retirement in 2021.
