Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea chose to rise above an attempted trolling after a supporter tried to mock him.

De Gea left United at the end of the 2022/23 season after prolonged negotiations between himself and the Reds. While Erik ten Hag had spoken openly about the Spaniard remaining at Old Trafford, some high-profile errors towards the end of the campaign saw the club decide to change direction.

It was agreed the two parties should part ways and United wasted no time in signing his replacement. Andre Onana was bought for £47.2million from Inter while Altay Bayindir signed from Fenerbahce for £5m.

Unfortunately for De Gea, he has yet to find himself a new club. Some United fans had called for him to return following Onana's tough start to life at the club but this was never a realistic option. Newcastle United have also been linked with De Gea but for now the 'keeper awaits his next adventure.

On New Year's Eve, one United fan attempted to poke fun at De Gea when they uploaded a video captioned 'David de Gea 23/24 highlights'. The video showed the Reds' former shot-stopper dancing with friends at a party.

Instead of getting into an argument on social media, De Gea chose to see the funny side, responding: "Enjoy my movements." Supporters moved to back the 33-year-old for his classy response to the attempted trolling.

United could hand Bayindir his debut on Monday when Ten Hag's side take on Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup.
