A new Kevin Hart film which earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 31% has been slammed as 'hollow' by viewers.
Lift landed on Netflix on January 12 and is currently sat at the top on the streamer's UK film charts. It's a departure from Hart's usual comedy projects and sees him play calm-and-cool ringleader Cyrus Whitaker.
A mastermind at heart, his latest mission is to lift $500 million in gold from a plane. Mid-flight. At 40,000 feet in the air. Black Mirror's Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Echo's Vincent D’Onofrio, Money Heist's Úrsula Corberó and No Time To Die's Billy Magnussen make up the rag-tag team attempting to pull off the heist.

Meanwhile Italian Job's F. Gary Gray serves as director - with viewers comparing Lift's plot to that of his 2003 crime thriller. Gray previously told Netflix: “I love the heist genre and the idea of pairing Kevin Hart with a world-class cast.
“I really felt for his character, Cyrus Whitaker, as he orchestrated an impossible global mission — as a director, tackling the seemingly impossible task of filming a global production is my everyday adventure!”
Lift was rated a measly 31% by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, however, with the audience score not much more forgiving at 34%. Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times said: "Kevin Hart’s heist crew steals ideas from better movies" while Christy Lemire of RogerEbert.com described the film as: "Competently made and star-studded, with a couple of intriguing ideas, but hollow."
Over on X, formerly Twitter, most fans were in agreement with the critics. @Mim_maryamhn recommended the film, but warned: "...Don’t expect much from the plot, the cast, or the humour. It’s a case study in how not to make a timely film" as @InfamousLuffy_8 slammed: "#LiftNetflix (Action) - Never really lifts off!" adding: "By and large an underwhelming rehash of the filmmaker’s own “The Italian Job”, Lift is barely exciting nor engaging."
