Tess Daly has shared a rare gushing post about her husband Vernon Kay as he returned home following his epic challenge for Children In Need. The BBC Radio 2 host has been flooded with praise after he completed a gruelling ultra ultramarathon.

Last week, over four days, Vernon completed the 115-mile running challenge after starting from Victoria Park in Leicester before ending up at the finish line in his hometown at Bolton Wanderers' stadium. Radio 2 listeners were given regular updates as his emotional challenge unfolded with many there to cheer him on as he made it back to home turf.

And on Monday (November 20), Vernon was able to update Radio 2 listeners on how he's feeling now after the "physically and mentally draining" challenge. He said: "I'm exhausted, I'm shattered, I'm full of a cold, I've got a real chesty cough I think it's cos we were running constantly and I was changing my clothes every seven or eight miles. But now I'm taking lots of vitamins and ginger."

He was also given an update on his fundraising total. On Friday night the total had hit £5million but by Monday, Vernon had been told that has gone up to a staggering £5.84million. Vernon said: "It's just unbelievable. Who would have thought when we started, we'd have ended with £5.8m," after being told the news live on BBC Radio 2 on his show which was being covered by presenter Gary Davies.

Now though, Tess had shared her support for her husband after being unable to make it to the finish line due to her Strictly Come Dancing in Blackpool. Taking to Instagram, the presenter shared a picture of the pair sharing a tight embrace.

"Not to get all sentimental on here but we are so proud of @vernonkay and all he's achieved and raised for @bbccin," Tess, from Stockport, started the caption of her post. "When he first said he was running 116 miles in 4 days for charity, we were shocked to say the least (and genuinely wondered if his knees would make it through)...

Tess had been giving Vernon all the hugs after his epic challenge

"But with every day he accomplished more and more miles; supported along the way by the amazing and always inspiring @bbcradio2 listeners who got behind him on his journey and were BEYOND generous with their donations, their cuddles, high 5’s and home made cakes. I know he could not be more grateful."

Tess then shared her own update on Vernon, ahead of his planned return to BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday (November 22) and said: "Been loading him up since with soup, hot water bottles and hugs."

Tess' celebrity pals including Claudia Winkleman, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Fleur East and Amanda Holden all shares messages and emojis in response to her post while fans flocked to share more praise for Vernon.
