Vernon Kay has shared an update with his fans giving a glimpse of a fun-filled family holiday he's just enjoyed. Horwich-born Vernon and his wife Tess Daly have been on a trip to the USA - where it seems stetsons, horse-riding on the beach, coastal bicycling and walks near the waves were the order of the day.

Vernon posted a series of photos to his Instagram profile, accompanying them with the caption: "We finally got there! California you were awesome!!"

In the pictures Vernon is seen trying on a cowboy hat in a shop filled with traditional headgear and denim jeans, as well as riding a horse on the sand alongside Tess, as they both smile to the camera. There's also a picture of what appears to be Vernon and Tess' two daughters taking in a walk among rockpools, and one of Vernon riding a bike on a seafront promenade.

In the comments, fans were thrilled to see Vernon had a nice time. But they also issued the BBC Radio 2 host - whose mid-morning show was covered in his absence by Gary Davies - with the same demand.

"Glad you had a great hols but please get back to the day job," said @loweserena. "It’s not the same!"

@timfish5 said: "Get back to work...Gary's doing my head in" while @mrsmac04 wrote: "Me and my work crew have missed you not being on #bbcradio2."

@andreacassidy7 commented "We've missed you Vernon on the radio" and @barnsleypaula said: "As much as @djgarydavies has been fab it's time for the super trooper to return."

In his post Vernon confirmed he was returning to the airwaves today (Monday, July 31), saying he would be "back on the wireless". In May he took over from Ken Bruce in the 9.30am to midday slot on Radio 2, after his predecessor left for Greatest Hits Radio following a 31-year-stint, taking his popular Popmaster quiz with him.

Speaking about his approach to the radio programme earlier this year, Vernon said: "Because the show was so successful it’s ‘don’t change it if it ain’t broke’, it’s more of the same really."

Asked what he would bring to the show, Vernon said: "Nothing that they haven’t heard before really, just tales of the past and everything that has gone on from when I was a caretaker in Bolton. All those stories that connect me with the audience, it’s not all champagne, bubbles, tuxedo and dinner parties once you get into showbiz."

Vernon, who married Stockport-born Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess almost 20 years ago in September 2003, is known for fronting various shows on Channel 4’s T4 as well as ITV programmes including All Star Family Fortunes, Just The Two Of Us, and Beat The Star.
