A set of candid photographs taken over the course of 24-hours shows what a typical day at Manchester Airport looked like in the 1980s.
Back in 1987, Manchester Libraries commissioned the renowned Salford photographer, Shirley Baker, to take photographs inside Manchester Airport for their Documentary Photography Archive project.
Shirley, who died in 2014, aged 82, is best known for her images of the streets and communities of Manchester and Salford from the 1960s to the 1980s.

During her lifetime she amassed a large and varied body of work, but it wasn't until later in her career that her photographs began to get the recognition they deserved.
For the Manchester Libraries airport commission, she managed to capture, in her typical candid style full of humanity and humour, holidaymakers dreaming of reaching their sunny destinations in the terminals, lounges and duty free shops.
Below we've put together a small selection of the photos taken by Shirley Baker, but the full set can be seen on Manchester Libraries Documentary Photo Archive page, here.
