Hundreds of sun-seeking Mancunians have hit up the city centre's greenspace to soak up the last of the sunshine before the weekend hits a stormy end. As we come to the end of Greater Manchester's first bout of warm weather in 2024, you would think summer has arrived early as droves of people flock to Piccadilly Gardens with cold drinks and picnics in tow.

With the smell of BBQs wafting through suburban areas and city centre beer gardens booming, the bright and dry weather persisted throughout the day with plenty of late evening sunshine.

Temperatures reached highs of 23 degrees and it is to stay dry overnight with prolonged clear spells across the region.

There will be much-welcomed light winds throughout the latter half of the day however it will remain warm despite the clear skies, dropping to temperatures as low as 12 degrees.

The Met Office has warned the warm weather brings "an increase in both UV and pollen levels", reminding people who plan to stay outside in the sun all day to protect themselves from harmful rays.

Things are set to take a turn for the worse on Sunday. While the day is to begin dry and bright, some regions can expect thunder showers to develop in the afternoon bringing heavy rain, lightning, possible hail, and gusty winds.

It will remain warm however with high of 25 degrees across the North West.

There is a yellow weather warning in place for thunderstorms, which the Met Office currently predict will take place between 7pm-8pm.

We're set to see showers from 2pm well into the night, bringing an end to the sunny dry weather we've seen this week.

Next week the region is set for a dry start on Monday with rain and blustery winds returning from the west later, sweeping northwards through Tuesday. There will also be sunny spells and showers on Wednesday.
