A supermarket in Bolton was evacuated in the early hours of this morning after a fire broke out.

The blaze broke out inside Sainsbury's on Cricketers Way in Westhoughton at around 3.30am. Fire crews were scrambled to the scene as staff evacuated the store.

No one was injured, a spokesperson for the fire service said. The Manchester Evening News understands that the supermarket remained closed this morning for safety reasons.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At half past three this morning, Saturday 22nd October, a fire broke out in a Sainsbury’s supermarket on Cricketers Way, Bolton. Firefighters from Hindley, Atherton, and Bolton fire stations extinguished the fire and ventilated the smoke from the store.

"Supermarket staff evacuated successfully upon discovery of the fire and there were no reported injuries."
