A boy who was arrested after a stabbing on a busy road in Longsight has been released on bail, police have confirmed.

The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the victim - a man aged in his 20s - was stabbed in the chest on Slade Lane last Friday (May 17). He has since been bailed pending further investigation, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester confirmed in an update today (May 21).

The victim was rushed to hospital from the scene in a critical condition after the incident at around 6.15pm. His condition is now 'stable', police said.

Another man - aged in his 50s - who was also released on suspicion of attempted murder has also been released on police bail. The probe into the incident is continuing with any witnesses, or anyone with CCTV, dash cam or doorbell footage, urged to come forward.

Increased police patrols are continuing in the area. In a statement issued earlier this week, Detective Inspector John Robb, from GMP's City of Manchester division said: "We have continued with our enquiries over the weekend which has led us to arresting another individual in relation to this incident.

"Additional officers will remain in the area, and I would encourage members of the public to speak to them if you have any concerns or information that could assist us with our investigation. I would like to thank he community for their help and patience so far.

"We aim to always deliver outstanding public service and build public trust and confidence across Greater Manchester, and we hope the work we have done so far underlines those aims."
