A man was stabbed during a fight in the early hours of Sunday on a town centre street. Officers from Greater Manchester Police and emergency services were called to Silver Street in Bury at 3.15am today after reports of a fight.

The force said a man sustained a stab injury thankfully described as 'not believed to be life-changing or threatening'. No age for him has been revealed. In a statement, GMP said four men aged between 21 and 29 were arrested on suspicion of assault and remained in custody for questioning on Sunday.

In the statement on Sunday, GMP said: "Officers responded to reports of a fight on Silver Street at around 3.15am this morning (12 May).

"One man sustained an injury not believed to be life-changing or threatening. Four males aged between 21 and 29 have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

"They remain in custody for questioning and enquiries are ongoing." No further details have been revealed and anyone with information is being urged to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

It's the second stabbing incident on the same road in Bury this month. Police were called to reports of an assault outside a bar on Silver Street in the early hours of Sunday, May 5. Two men, aged 45 and 34, were subsequently taken to hospital after suffering stab wounds, GMP said.

Thankfully their injuries too were described as not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault was later released on police bail after questioning.
