The M67 is shut this morning due to an 'ongoing police incident'.

The eastbound carriageway between junction 1A for for Stockport Road and junction 2 for Denton is currently closed. The road bridge that carries Edward Street over the motorway is also shut.

Police officers and ambulance vehicles have been pictured at the scene. National Highways said that due to the nature of the incident it is not able to advise how long the closure is likely to remain in place.

GMP statement: Man found dead after police called to report of concern for welfare

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said:

"On Thursday 15 September at around 4am we received a report regarding the concern for the welfare of a man on Lance Corporal Andrew Breeze Way, Denton.

"Despite the best efforts of emergency services, sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances around this as enquiries continue."

Full diversion route from Highways England

Road users are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbols on road signs.

  • Exit the M67 at J1a.
  • Turn right onto the A6017 southbound.
  • At the junction with A57, turn left onto A57.
  • At the junction with St Anne’s Road, turn left onto St Anne’s Road.
  • Rejoin M67 at J2
