A number of residents have been evacuated this evening amid a huge fire, with plumes of smoke seen for miles. Emergency services are in attendance on Totland Close in Levenshulme.

Witnesses reported seeing a number of fire service vehicles along with police and paramedics at the scene. Dramatic footage shows thick clouds of smoke billowing overhead.

Emergency services remain in attendance with the residential street blocked off.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Fire Service said they had sent five fire engines to the scene of a flat fire. They currently remain on scene.

The Manchester Evening News understands nobody has been left injured following the blaze earlier today. A number of local residents were evacuated from their homes shortly after 5pm.

The scene remains in place however.

Fire crews remain on scene after blaze breaks out at flat

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly after 5pm today (Tuesday, 4 June), five fire engines from Withington, Manchester Central, Blackley, Gorton and Whitehill fire stations were called to attend a flat fire on Totland Close, Manchester.

“Crews arrived quickly and used six breathing apparatus and three hose reels to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters remain at the scene at this time.”
