Police have launched an investigation after a 17-year-old girl was raped during a night out in Knutsford.

Officers were called on Sunday (May 12) to reports of the sex attack that occurred sometime between 11pm on Saturday (May 11) and 5am the following morning.

Cheshire Constabulary said the victim had been in and around Knutsford town centre and also the Mobberley Road area when she was raped. A 37-year-old man has since been arrested as enquiries continue.

The victim is currently being supported by officers and investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances around the incident, police said. Officer patrols have also been increased in the area.

Anyone with any information or who may have been in the vicinity during the time of the alleged attack is being urged to contact police immediately.

DI Rob Lees from Cheshire Poice said: “As part of our investigation we have arrested a 37-year-old man. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.

“I’d urge anyone who was in the areas of the town centre and Mobberley Road between the hours of 11pm on Saturday 11 May and 5am on Sunday 12 May to contact us with any information that may help us with our investigation.

“We understand this may cause some concern in the community and have increased in patrols in the area to provide reassurance.”
