New video shows what £100m Liverpool Baltic Merseyrail station will look like
The new station could be open to commuters as soon as 2027
New CGIs have given a fresh take on how a new £100m Merseyrail station in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle will look, ahead of commuters getting to have their say on plans.
Redevelopment of the long unused stop on the edge of the city centre was announced in 2022 with Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram aiming to get passengers on track by 2027. It is hoped work could get underway as early as 2025.
Now commuters are to get their chance to feed back on the proposals in two drop-in events as part of a wide-ranging public consultation on the scheme.

The new station is one of four planned by Mr Rotheram, who has committed to completing the project by the end of 2027 – a year ahead of its current schedule. Plans for Liverpool Baltic station include step-free access from street to train, passenger waiting facilities, fully accessible passenger toilets, secured monitored cycle parking and links to an enhanced local active travel network.
The new station, which will be located on Merseyrail’s Northern Line, will serve the UK’s ‘coolest neighbourhood’ – and the world’s 11th coolest – according to Time Out magazine. The station’s name was chosen by the public in an online vote in 2022 which saw more than three-quarters opt for Liverpool Baltic.
A pair of drop-in sessions will be held for rail users and residents in the coming weeks, beginning at Baltic Creative CIC, Jamaica Street on Tuesday July 16 from 11am to 8pm. A second event will take place at FireFit Youth and Community Hub, 115 Upper Warwick Street, Toxteth a week later on July 23, again from 11am to 8pm.
Information gathered from the public consultation will be used to finalise the designs ahead of the full planning application that will go before Liverpool Council. The public consultation will run until Sunday August 4.
Cllr Steve Foulkes, chair of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transport Committee, said: “The Liverpool Baltic station scheme is another fantastic example of the investment we are putting into the city region to deliver Mayor Steve Rotheram’s ambition of a reliable, accessible, affordable and integrated public transport network that helps, rather than hinders people getting around. As one of the fastest growing areas of our city region, it is vital that we look to improve transport links and encourage more people to leave behind the car and travel by rail or bus where possible.”
